PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Frank Cote (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matt Pierre (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cote comes to the cage accompanied by Drake-City Is Mine. Pierre is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Indestructable by Disturbed. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Matt Pierre!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Trevor Gratis and Gregory Folan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Pierre scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
You can see the frustration on Cote's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Pierre really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Cote. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Pierre punches the canvas rather than the man.

Pierre feints and as Cote raises his hands in defense, Pierre changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Cote has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Pierre can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Cote escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Pierre gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

and Cote counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Pierre!

Pierre is looking to improve his position but Cote isn't that keen on the idea.
Cote trying to control but Pierre is having none of it.
Pierre takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.

Cote working for a submission but Pierre is keeping him at bay.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Frank Cote will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



Pierre fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Cote sprawls well initially but Pierre persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Pierre must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Cote manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Pierre manages to get himself to full guard.

Cote drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Cote jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Cote stands and throws Pierre's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Cote decides to take the fight back to the feet.

Cote closes the distance looking for a takedown. Pierre stuffs it but Cote still has hold of him. Cote picks Pierre up in a fireman's lift! The crowd roars in approval. Cote slams Pierre to the floor and that's really hurt Pierre - he doesn't know where he is! Cote throws a couple of strikes and the referee steps in to save him! This one is in the books!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:26 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Frank Cote!
