PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Alistair Crowley (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Phillip Pascual (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Pascual has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pascual moves away from the strike by Crowley.

Crowley drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Crowley is putting a hurting on Pascual here, landing some big shots from side control.
Crowley works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
Crowley lands a few punches from side control.

Pascual looks gassed!
Crowley wants to stand but Pascual has him controlled and pulls him back into his guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Crowley throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Pascual works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Crowley controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Crowley is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Pascual is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Pascual has escaped and now he's on top!

Crowley has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Pascual has passed into side control.
Crowley wants to control but Pascual postures up.
Crowley looks to move to half guard but instead Pascual has passed into mount! Damn!
Crowley is working to get back to half guard.
Crowley is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Crowley wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Pascual prevents Crowley from getting the reversal.

Crowley slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Crowley is trying to stand.
Crowley is doing well to control the position and prevent Pascual from advancing to side control.
Crowley wants to stand back up but Pascual manages to pass into side control.

Crowley tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Pascual wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Pascual tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Crowley is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
Crowley is looking for a sweep.
Crowley is trying to escape and get back to his feet.

Pascual wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Crowley, who protects the arm well.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Crowley cracks Pascual with an open hand slap.

Pascual takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.

Crowley shoots in and bounces Pascual off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Crowley postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

Crowley throws a jab but it's blocked by Pascual.
Crowley fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Pascual checks it well.

Pascual gets caught flat footed, as Crowley shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Crowley wants to pass the guard but Pascual is keeping the position.
Crowley controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Pascual looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Pascual is breathing heavily.
Crowley not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Crowley trying to control the position from guard on top but Pascual is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Crowley ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Pascual moves away.

Crowley uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Pascual.
Crowley pulls out of a head kick attempt.
The fight stays on the outside here - Crowley looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Crowley stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Pascual swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Crowley knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Pascual on the ground.

Pascual uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Crowley.
Pascual walks into a straight right hand from Crowley.
Crowley tries to clinch but Pascual is having none of it.

Crowley has taken the fight to the clinch.

Crowley tries to score a body lock takedown but Pascual shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Crowley thows a huge punch but Pascual dodges it nicely.
Crowley wants to take a breather but Pascual is having none of it.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Crowley connects with a nice short shot to Pascual's temple.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Pascual escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Crowley gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

That's time! Crowley's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!



Crowley closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Pascual to the mat! Pascual manages to get full guard.

Pascual is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Crowley defends well.

Pascual working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Crowley doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Crowley manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Crowley seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Pascual for as long as he can get away with.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Alistair Crowley just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.

Crowley bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Pascual wants to get back to full guard.
Crowley looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Pascual with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Well Crowley has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
