PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Randolph Duke (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Carraig o Cathain (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Duke comes into the arena with Pink Floyd - Money blaring out of the sound system. o Cathain has chosen U2 - Pride as his entrance music. Carraig o Cathain is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Randolph Duke!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 1, fighting out of New York, Carraig o Cathain !
The judges for this bout are Chad Campbell, Reed Andrews and Dean Styles.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Duke drives through with a takedown into guard.
Duke throwing strikes but missing.
o Cathain is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
o Cathain seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Duke is looking for a sweep. o Cathain is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
o Cathain is stalling here. Duke is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! o Cathain seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Duke has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Duke stands up.
Duke uses good head movement to avoid the hook from o Cathain .
Duke tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but o Cathain swivels and escapes.
Duke avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
o Cathain looks to land a left hand but Duke moved out of range nicely.
o Cathain throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
o Cathain is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
o Cathain throws a hook but Duke avoids it easily.

Duke drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Duke tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Duke has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Duke thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
o Cathain wants to control but Duke postures up.
o Cathain is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.

Duke goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, o Cathain rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Duke's guard! Nice work there by o Cathain !

That's three minutes gone in the round.
o Cathain pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Duke is keeping the position for now.
o Cathain wants to control from the top but Duke keeps moving.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

o Cathain gets in close and instigates a clinch.
o Cathain manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
o Cathain taking a breather.
With the two fighters working up against the cage, Duke just misses with a elbow thrown towards o Cathain 's brow.
Come on o Cathain - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Duke jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as o Cathain walks away with a smile on his face. Duke gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

o Cathain moves into the clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Randolph Duke will probably get the nod.
That's time! Back to the action!


A jab from o Cathain misses.
Duke shoots for a takedown but o Cathain saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
o Cathain is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Duke.
o Cathain misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Duke uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from o Cathain .
o Cathain misses with a few strikes there.
Randolph Duke is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
o Cathain thows a left - swing and a miss!
A left lands for o Cathain .
o Cathain swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.

Duke looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Duke has gone for a leg lock! o Cathain slips out almost immediately though and dives into Duke's guard.
o Cathain pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Duke is keeping the position for now.

That's one minute gone in the round.
o Cathain is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Duke is looking to sinch up a triangle. o Cathain throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Duke's body to avoid the submission. Duke has instead reached around o Cathain 's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Duke arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:58 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Randolph Duke!
