Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Matheus Gomes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jorge Cruz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cruz looking to land some kicks to the body here.
Cruz smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.

Gomes feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Gomes's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Cruz wants to get back to his feet but Gomes is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Gomes postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Cruz looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Gomes accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Cruz throws a lazy right hand but Gomes sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Cruz misses with a straight right.

Gomes shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Cruz's guard.

Gomes drops back, looking for a kneebar! Cruz looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Cruz looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Cruz!

Cruz looking to ground and pound but Gomes is blocking nicely.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Gomes is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.
Gomes is breathing heavily.
Cruz pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Cruz fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

Oh Gomes is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Gomes on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Gomes tries to get out of the position.
Cruz loads up on a couple of big shots to the head that have Gomes scrambling to escape. He can't get free though and several more unanswered shots from Cruz land to the head. The referee has no choice but to stop the fight. Cruz stands and salutes the crowd.
