PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Paul Rossinelli (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Roman Stonoga (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Paul Rossinelli!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Roman Stonoga!
The judges for this bout are Arvi Lind, Matti Vanhoillinen and Roosa Järviläinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stonoga moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.

Stonoga shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Rossinelli's guard.
Rossinelli preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

Rossinelli working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Stonoga doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Stonoga manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Stonoga wants to control from the top but Rossinelli keeps moving.

Rossinelli is looking for a triangle but Stonoga pushes his legs off easily.
Rossinelli is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Rossinelli thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Rossinelli is working for a submission of some sort.
Stonoga is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Rossinelli thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Stonoga's head.

Stonoga kicks off Rossinelli and gets to his feet.
Stonoga throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Stonoga throws a sloppy head kick and Rossinelli moves out of range easily.
Stonoga pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Rossinelli throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Stonoga was covering up waiting for the punch and Rossinelli finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Stonoga pulls Rossinelli in close to his closed guard and prevents Rossinelli from doing any damage or advancing position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Rossinelli throws a big right hand that misses.
Stonoga is looking to stand up but Rossinelli isn't so interested in that idea.
Rossinelli is working Stonoga over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Rossinelli tries to free his leg and advance position but Stonoga is retaining full guard.
Stonoga is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Rossinelli has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Stonoga clinches up with Rossinelli and pushes him back against the cage.

Stonoga manages to break the clinch.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Stonoga avoids a punch combination nicely.
A telegraphed right hand from Rossinelli misses the target.
Rossinelli looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Stonoga gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Rossinelli is trying to break free.
Rossinelli tries to pull guard but Stonoga holds him up against the cage and eventually Rossinelli drops back down to his feet.

Stonoga's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Stonoga tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Stonoga slips a straight right by Rossinelli.
Rossinelli fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Stonoga is out of range.
Rossinelli lands a nice shot to the body.
Rossinelli throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

Rossinelli looking for a takedown here - he's got it.

Rossinelli thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Rossinelli drops back looking for a leg! Stonoga is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Stonoga manages to kick Rossinelli off! Rossinelli jumps back into Stonoga's guard.
Rossinelli stops Stonoga from standing up.
Rossinelli with a flurry of punches that miss.
Rossinelli is looking to work some ground and pound but Stonoga has wrist control.
Rossinelli scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Rossinelli throws a big right hand that misses.

Stonoga really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Rossinelli. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Rossinelli works the jab nicely.
Stonoga shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Rossinelli as he jumps to the side.
Rossinelli throws a big shot that misses.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Paul Rossinelli dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Rossinelli misses with the combination.
Rossinelli throws a jab but it's blocked by Stonoga.
Rossinelli works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Stonoga feints and then cracks Rossinelli's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Rossinelli down.
Rossinelli shoots in and drives through. Stonoga sprawls well.
Both fighters circling a little - Stonoga finishes the exchange with a kick to the body.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Stonoga throws a head kick that half lands.
Rossinelli throws a lazy right hand but Stonoga sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Rossinelli clobbers Stonoga with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Rossinelli scores with a shot to the body.

Rossinelli shoots in and bounces Stonoga off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Rossinelli loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Rossinelli pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Stonoga is keeping the position for now.
Stonoga is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Rossinelli pushes down on Stonoga's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Rossinelli prevents Stonoga from improving his position.
Rossinelli wants to free his trapped foot but Stonoga is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Rossinelli maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Stonoga could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Rossinelli has cracked it and Stonoga is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Rossinelli!
