The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Carraretto throws a body punch but Van Staaden moves out of range.
Carraretto moves in looking to clinch but Van Staaden pushes him off.
Carraretto tries to clinch there but Van Staaden circles away.
Carraretto tries a head kick but it misses.
Van Staaden throws a right and a left that both miss.
Carraretto throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Van Staaden moves out of range of the body kick from Carraretto.
Carraretto displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Van Staaden throws out the jab.

Van Staaden looks gassed!

Van Staaden tries to keep at a distance but Carraretto has taken the fight into the clinch.
Carraretto tries to land a knee to the head but Van Staaden blocks with his arms.
Van Staaden tries to break free but Carraretto pushes him back against the ropes.
Carraretto drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Carraretto unloads a knee to the mid-section.

Carraretto tries to land a knee to the head but Van Staaden blocks with his arms.
Carraretto jumps guard but Van Staaden stands there with Carraretto around his waist. Carraretto gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Carraretto moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.

Van Staaden chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Carraretto can pounce on him.
Van Staaden defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Carraretto.

That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Van Staaden crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Carraretto - the referee stops the clock and Van Staaden gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Carraretto. Van Staaden manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
Carraretto throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

Carraretto lands a high kick to the side of Van Staaden's head that stuns him and send him tumbling down to the canvas! Carraretto dives into guard, looking to finish.

Van Staaden is rocked!

It looks like Claud Van Staaden has been cut.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Carraretto accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Van Staaden is still in real trouble! Can Carraretto finish him?
Carraretto passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Van Staaden seems to have recovered his senses.
Carraretto throws an elbow but Van Staaden slips to the side and avoids it well.
Van Staaden parries the strikes from Carraretto easily there. Carraretto is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Van Staaden to escape.
Van Staaden avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Carraretto.
Carraretto has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Carraretto misses with the ground and pound.
Carraretto has knee on belly and moves into mount.
Carraretto thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!

Carraretto lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.

Carraretto has his opponent pinned against the ropes, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Van Staaden's face.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Carraretto turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.

Carraretto throws a leg kick which misses Van Staaden's front leg but catches the back leg as Van Staaden tries to avoid it.
Both fighters circling slowly here as the pace drops. Hopefully one of them does someth.. OOOHHHH!!!! Carraretto throws an absolute beast of a head kick! Van Staaden is done! He's out cold, twisted and contorted up against the ropes! Wow!
