PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Randy Hughes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Phil Kim (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kim is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: I'm A Goon - Ill Bill. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Randy Hughes !
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Phil Kim!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hughes shoots for a double leg takedown but Kim sprawls well. He's pushed Hughes 's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Kim throws a hook to the side of Hughes 's head but Hughes sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Hughes stuffs the takedown attempt from Kim. Kim gets slowly back to his feet.
Hughes throws a sloppy head kick and Kim moves out of range easily.

Kim gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Kim has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Hughes is trying to keep an underhook but Kim manages to get the takedown into half guard.
Kim is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Hughes makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Hughes .

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Hughes is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Kim is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Kim has escaped and now he's on top!

Kim distracts Hughes with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Hughes escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Kim gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Hughes is breathing heavily.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Kim accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Kim wants to pass the guard but Hughes is keeping the position.

Hughes is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Kim scores with a couple of nice shots.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Phil Kim dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Kim tried to score with a low kick but Hughes checks it.
Hughes is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Kim.
Kim throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Hughes 's waist but Hughes gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Kim off to one side.
Randy Hughes is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Hughes tries to clinch there but Kim circles away.

and Kim counters by moving into the clinch.
Kim can't get the takedown.
Hughes tries to stall but Kim uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
Kim is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Kim is trying to trip Hughes . He has hold of a leg but Hughes is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Kim persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Kim is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Kim thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Hughes looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Hughes on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Hughes tries to get out of the position.

Hughes is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Hughes might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Phil Kim showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Kim is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Hughes is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Kim catches Hughes with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!

Phil Kim is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Phil Kim comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Kim has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
