PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Sal Crosby (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Braden Ridley (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Sal Crosby!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Braden Ridley!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ridley tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Ridley tries to clinch up.
Crosby tries to score a power double leg takedown but Ridley sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Crosby somewhat.
Crosby throws a right hand that Ridley ducks under and follows up with a left that Ridley also avoids with ease.

Crosby clinches with his opponent.
Crosby misses with a knee to the head.
Ridley tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Crosby just stands there and leans against the cage.

Ridley has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Crosby uses from the top position.
Crosby wants to stand but Ridley is controlling his posture from full guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Crosby is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Ridley is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Ridley has escaped and now he's on top!

Ridley passes Crosby's left leg - he's now in half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ridley is trying to control the action in half guard but Crosby is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Ridley wants to free his trapped foot but Crosby is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Crosby is pressing down on Ridley's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Crosby is breathing heavily.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Ridley stands up from Crosby's guard - Ridley perhaps looking for a knockout.
Crosby shoots in but no luck this time.
Crosby misses with a jab, cross combination.

Ridley instigates a clinch.

Ridley is trying to trip Crosby. He has hold of a leg but Crosby is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Ridley persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Ridley is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Ridley is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Crosby can't keep his opponent in guard - Ridley advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Ridley content just to control the position here.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Braden Ridley dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Ridley fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Ridley throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Crosby's waist but Crosby gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Ridley off to one side.

and Crosby counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Crosby.
Crosby won't allow Ridley to sweep him here.

Ridley has his foot on Crosby's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Crosby works his way back into a safe position though.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Ridley holds on and takes a little breather.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Crosby moves in looking to clinch but Ridley pushes him off.

and Crosby counters with a shoot takedown. Ridley fights it but they end up in guard.

Ridley tries to kick Crosby off but Crosby keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Crosby wants to work for an arm triangle but Ridley is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Crosby thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Ridley's head.
Sal Crosby overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Crosby seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
Ridley is trying to maintain the position but Crosby is very close to passing his half guard.
Crosby is looking to advance position but Ridley won't allow it.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Ridley shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Crosby's guard.

Crosby is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Ridley is pushing down on Crosby's leg trying to pass to half guard. Crosby is fighting to maintain full guard but Ridley has managed to sneak the leg through.

Ridley decides to stand and escape the position.
Crosby will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Ridley shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Ridley showed some decent athleticism there.
Ridley wants to stand but Crosby has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.

Crosby is trying to stand back up but Ridley is controlling him

A close second round but Braden Ridley will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. And we move into the final round!


Ridley doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Crosby counters with a shoot takedown. Ridley fights it but they end up in guard.

Crosby drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Crosby jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Ridley has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Crosby is working away from the top position though.
Ridley throws a strike from the bottom that misses.

Crosby is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Crosby keeps the fight on the outside.

Ridley tries to clinch

and Crosby holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Crosby tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Ridley smiles and moves away.

and Ridley counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Sal Crosby. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Crosby wants to stand and escape but Ridley is having none of it.

Crosby has closed the distance and engaged Ridley in a clinch.

Ridley has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Crosby uses from the top position.

Braden Ridley is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
