PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jack Black (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Buckley Armstrong (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 1, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jack Black!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Buckley Armstrong!
The judges for this bout are Viktor Lagutenko, Vladimir Khabensky and Ivan Kurochkin.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Black throws a lazy right hand but Armstrong sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Armstrong tries to close the distance and clinch up but Black swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Black fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Armstrong works Black's body with a nice hook.
Black misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Armstrong changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Black tries to avoid it but Armstrong manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Black to the ground. Black escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Armstrong clinches.
Armstrong scores a nice knee to the body.
Armstrong has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Black is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Armstrong lands an elbow inside.

It looks like Jack Black has been cut.

Armstrong is fighting off a takedown attempt but Black is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Armstrong to the mat. Armstrong regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Armstrong escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Black gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Black is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Armstrong is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Black tries to free his leg and advance position but Armstrong is retaining full guard.

Armstrong looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Armstrong is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Black gets to his feet. Armstrong looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Armstrong shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Black's guard.
Black is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Black is wriggling around but Armstrong manages to pass to half guard.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Black misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Jack Black has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Buckley Armstrong.

so Armstrong counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Armstrong stands and throws Black's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Armstrong is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Black is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Black tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops.

Black is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.

Black is trying to get back to his feet. He's worked up on to his knees and now he's on his feet with his head on the canvas, trying to shake Armstrong off. It looks like it's working - Armstrong slides off, much to his dismay, and we're back to standing! Black displaying calm under pressure there.
Armstrong fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Black manages to avoid it.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Armstrong tries to clinch up.
Black throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Armstrong.

Black is pushing down on Armstrong's leg trying to pass to half guard. Armstrong is fighting to maintain full guard but Black has managed to sneak the leg through.

Black is looking to advance position but Armstrong won't allow it.

Armstrong is pressing down on Black's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Black stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Armstrong swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Black is working hard here to advance position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Armstrong fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Black avoids it really well and circles away.
Black throws a nice looking combination but Armstrong bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Black lands with an uppercut that bounces Armstrong off the cage and back into rage.

Black gets caught flat footed, as Armstrong shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Black is on top in guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Black accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Armstrong is breathing heavily.
Black thows a huge punch but Armstrong dodges it nicely.

It looks like Black is going to stand back up.
Black moves into full mount! Armstrong won't be happy about that!
Black lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Black prevents Armstrong from getting the reversal.
The referee warns Armstrong that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Black lands a big elbow.
Armstrong is trying desperately to improve position.

Black goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Armstrong turns into him and now he's in Black's guard.
Black looking to hit a scissor sweep but Armstrong is one step ahead there.

Armstrong prevents Black from getting back to his feet.

Armstrong drops back looking for a leg! Black is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Black manages to kick Armstrong off! Armstrong jumps back into Black's guard.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Black cracks Armstrong with a good jab.
Black paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Black keeps the fight on the outside.

Black goes for an armbar but Armstrong turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Armstrong.
Armstrong wants to control from the top but Black keeps moving.
Armstrong prevents Black from getting back to his feet.

Armstrong seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

Black throws a predictable looking body shot

and Armstrong counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Black!

Armstrong is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Black to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Black shrugs it off.
Black wants to try and get back to his feet.

Armstrong has hold of Black's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Black manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Buckley Armstrong has got the better of the ground game so far.

Armstrong jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Black is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Black and Armstrong has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Black is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

Armstrong in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Black tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Armstrong!
