The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Peiper throws a jab when Thompson was well out of range.
Peiper throws out a loose jab but Thompson uses good head movement to avoid it.
Thompson misses with a double jab.
Peiper smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Peiper avoids the body shot from Thompson.
Thompson on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.

Thompson swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Thompson takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Thompson throws a right hand that Peiper ducks under and follows up with a left that Peiper also avoids with ease.
Peiper walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.

It looks like Joachim Peiper has been cut.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Thompson throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Peiper.

Peiper stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.

Peiper misses with a few strikes there.

Thompson lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Peiper circles away quickly and effectively.
Peiper ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.

and Peiper counters with a two punch combo.

Peiper uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Thompson.

Peiper cracks Thompson with a nasty uppercut that draws ooohs from the crowd and sends Thompson tumbling backwards onto the mat. He tries to recover but Peiper pounces and lands a hail of unanswered strikes that forces the referee to step in to end the fight! Thompson is not happy but he gave the referee no choice!
