Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Romero Calvacanti (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ryan Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Romero Calvacanti!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ryan Gracie!
The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Yukihiro Yamamoto and Yuuki Gou.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Thud! ouch! good body kick from Calvacanti - that will leave a mark!
Calvacanti displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Gracie.
Gracie looks for a takedown but Calvacanti sprawls well.
Gracie shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Calvacanti feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Gracie's calf.
Gracie takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
A decent looking body kick lands there for Calvacanti.
A slapping leg kick lands for Calvacanti.
Both fighters circling a little - Calvacanti finishes the exchange with a kick to the body.
Calvacanti plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!
Gracie shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Calvacanti as he avoids it easily.
Calvacanti scores with a spinning back kick!
Calvacanti connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Calvacanti lands with a kick to the ribs.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Calvacanti.
Calvacanti explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work.
Calvacanti lands with a kick to the ribs.

Calvacanti lands a head kick. Gracie smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
Ryan Gracie seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Nice sprawl there from Calvacanti as Gracie shoots in.
Gracie is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Calvacanti scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
Calvacanti lands with a kick to the temple. Gracie shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"

Calvacanti tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Gracie shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Calvacanti sprawls well. Calvacanti wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Gracie gets slowly back to his feet.
Calvacanti stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Calvacanti wants it to stay on the feet.

Gracie looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Gracie is trying desperately to land a takedown but Calvacanti is having absolutely none of it. This is turning into a bit of a nightmare for Gracie.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Gracie takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.

Calvacanti keeps Gracie at a distance using the push kick.
Gracie is trying hard to land a takedown here. Calvacanti sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Gracie looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Calvacanti is fending him off so far but Gracie persists. Nope, Calvacanti circles away and we're back to standing.

Calvacanti throws a head kick that looked like it stung.

Gracie closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Calvacanti is looking for a sweep. Gracie is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Gracie distracts Calvacanti with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Gracie throws a big right hand that misses.

Gracie has gone for a leg lock! Calvacanti slips out almost immediately though and dives into Gracie's guard.
Gracie keeping moving, preventing Calvacanti from controlling successfully.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Gracie wants to sweep here but Calvacanti controlling him for the moment.
Calvacanti has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Calvacanti looking to sit in guard and control but Gracie gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Gracie throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Calvacanti works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Gracie drops back, looking for a kneebar! Calvacanti looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Calvacanti looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Calvacanti!
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Gracie tries to bench press Calvacanti off him but Calvacanti keeps the position.
Gracie looks to move to half guard but instead Calvacanti has passed into mount! Damn!
Calvacanti landing strikes from the mount and Gracie is in trouble!

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Gracie is in all sorts of trouble here.
Calvacanti tries to control but Gracie wriggling away.
Calvacanti is really struggling to control Gracie but he's trying to hold on to the position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Gracie keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Calvacanti lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.

Calvacanti tries to land a front kick but Gracie steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Gracie fails with the takedown.
Calvacanti ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Gracie closes this distance looking for a takedown but Calvacanti circles away.
Calvacanti delivers a nice body kick.
Gracie has developed a nice purple lump on his ribcage, as a result of some heavy body kicks from Calvacanti.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Calvacanti throws a head kick but Gracie moves out of range.
Gracie shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Calvacanti as he avoids it easily.

Gracie shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Calvacanti manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Gracie looking to sit in guard and control but Calvacanti gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Calvacanti wanted to stand there but Gracie had control of the position.

Gracie is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Gracie lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Calvacanti!
Gracie takes his opponent's back. Perhaps a chance to lock up a rear naked choke here.
Calvacanti prevents Gracie from getting a body triangle.

Gracie looking to break Calvacanti's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Calvacanti remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Gracie will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!

Gracie looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Calvacanti puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Gracie wants to control but Calvacanti is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Calvacanti is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Calvacanti can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Gracie is looking to escape.
Gracie is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Romero Calvacanti.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Calvacanti, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
