PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Mirko Onopko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Walter Carvalho (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Onopko kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Vinnie Paz - Sixteen bars of Paz. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The judges for this bout are Sergei Dronov, Illya Tyunina and Fedor Mirinova.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Onopko lands with a thumping leg kick.
Carvalho scores with a one two! Onopko had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Carvalho misses with a series of wild punches.

Carvalho jumps guard but Onopko stands there with Carvalho around his waist. Carvalho gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Mirko Onopko has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Walter Carvalho.
Onopko's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Carvalho accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Onopko bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Onopko slips under a jab.
Walter Carvalho seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

and Onopko counters with a nice double leg into side control. Carvalho won't be happy with that.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Carvalho tries to kick Onopko off but Onopko keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Onopko escapes and gets back to his feet.
Carvalho bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Onopko looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Carvalho closes the distance and clinches up with Onopko, looking for a takedown. Carvalho pushes Onopko against the cage but Onopko circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Carvalho is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Onopko slips a jab from Carvalho.
Onopko throws a right hand that Carvalho ducks under and follows up with a left that Carvalho also avoids with ease.

Carvalho has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Onopko can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Carvalho is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Carvalho is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Carvalho wants to stand and escape but Onopko is having none of it.

Onopko decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Carvalho, up you get!

Carvalho tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Onopko paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Onopko knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Carvalho on the ground.

Carvalho drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Carvalho jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Carvalho is looking to stand up but he'll have to free his leg first. Instead, Onopko manages to get to full guard.
Onopko wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Onopko controls Carvalho momentarily but Carvalho frees himself.

Carvalho drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Carvalho jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Onopko shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Carvalho sprawls well. Carvalho wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Onopko gets slowly back to his feet.

Onopko closes the distance and clinches up with Carvalho, looking for a takedown. Onopko pushes Carvalho against the cage but Carvalho circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Carvalho fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Carvalho throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Onopko stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

Onopko keeps control of Carvalho as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Carvalho stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.

Walter Carvalho has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Carvalho thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Onopko's head.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Well Onopko has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
