PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between John Bengtsson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Grant Brophy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Brophy is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Pump It- Black Eyed Peas. Grant Brophy will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, John Bengtsson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Grant Brophy!
The judges for this bout are William Gold, Steven Brown and James Ackerman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bengtsson throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Grant Brophy seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Brophy closes the distance and clinches.
Bengtsson goes for a takedown in the clinch but Brophy prevents it.
Brophy stalling.
Brophy prevents a takedown attempt there.
Brophy is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Bengtsson is defending well for now.
Brophy's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

Brophy breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Brophy tries to clinch but Bengtsson is having none of it.

Bengtsson shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Bengtsson was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Bengtsson jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Brophy manages to avoid the submission attempt.

Brophy bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!

Bengtsson has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Bengtsson there as he acknowledges the shot.
Brophy wants to clinch.
Brophy lands the left hand.
Bengtsson fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for John Bengtsson. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Bengtsson shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Bengtsson showed some decent athleticism there.

Bengtsson is keen to just control but Brophy is a slippery customer.

Bengtsson is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Brophy is just riding it out for now. Bengtsson eventually gives up the hold.

Bengtsson is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Brophy defends it well.

Bengtsson won't allow Brophy to get back to his feet.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Bengtsson looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Brophy is fending him off so far but Bengtsson persists. Nope, Brophy circles away and we're back to standing.

Bengtsson bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Brophy is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.

Bengtsson thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Brophy is trying to escape and get back to his feet.

That was a close round but I would say that John Bengtsson will probably get the nod.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Bengtsson drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Brophy dives on top into guard.

Grant Brophy showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Brophy takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.

Bengtsson is working for takedown but Brophy is calmly controlling the position for now.

Bengtsson goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Brophy has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Bengtsson but great work by Brophy.

John Bengtsson overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Grant Brophy comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Brophy has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
