Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Thiago Belfort!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Joel Caputo!
The judges for this bout are Eddie Farnsworth, Chad Campbell and Lou da Vinci.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Caputo shoots in but no luck this time.
Caputo blocks a head kick by Belfort.
Nice takedown defense from Belfort. No joy for Caputo on that attempt.
Caputo fails with an attempt to clinch.
Caputo shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Belfort pinned against the cage. Belfort gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Thiago Belfort has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Joel Caputo.

Belfort shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Caputo napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Caputo is pushing Belfort's head away, looking to escape. Belfort manages to hold on to the position though.

Belfort wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Caputo, who protects the arm well.
Caputo tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Belfort wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Caputo tries to escape but Belfort is in control.
Caputo is looking to regain half guard here but Belfort keeps moving and retains side control.

Belfort is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Caputo knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Caputo is pushing Belfort's head away, looking to escape. Belfort manages to hold on to the position though.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Caputo is looking to reverse the position.
Belfort connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Caputo some visible discomfort.

Belfort is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Caputo knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Caputo is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Belfort looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Belfort working the ground and pound from side control.
Caputo really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Belfort. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Belfort is breathing heavily.
Caputo tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Caputo tries to escape but Belfort is in control.
Belfort has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Caputo stops Belfort from passing to mount.

Belfort is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Caputo has escaped the position, nice work there.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Belfort tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Belfort has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Caputo sneaks back into half guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Caputo has hold of a guillotine but he's not going to be able to crank on it really with only half guard, so it's no trouble for Belfort. Oh but Caputo has got full guard now! Oh boy! This one could be over very soon! Belfort goes limp - he's gone! Caputo jumps up and celebrates with the crowd - fantastic submission finish!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:46 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Joel Caputo!
