Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Don Syd (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matt Hughes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Syd kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Poisen. Both fighter's entrance songs getting the crowd jumping here.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Syd shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Hughes napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Syd in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
Hughes regains half guard.
Hughes is looking for a sweep. Syd is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Hughes is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Hughes is trying to maintain the position but Syd is very close to passing his half guard.
Syd throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Hughes misses with some strikes from the bottom.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Syd tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Hughes paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Syd fails with a takedown attempt.

Hughes changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Syd looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Syd is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
The referee asks Hughes politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Hughes prefers to stall for the moment though.
Hughes wants to lay and pray for a moment but Syd keeps working.

Hughes stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Syd misses with a takedown

and Hughes counters with a shoot takedown. Syd fights it but they end up in guard.
Syd is breathing heavily.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Syd is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Hughes keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Syd's head.
Syd wants to stand up but Hughes is controlling him.
Hughes stands and throws Syd's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Hughes is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Syd will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

Hughes lands some shots froms side control.
Hughes remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Hughes's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hughes scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Syd to see if he's OK.

Hughes takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Hughes throws some shoulder strikes here and then postures up. Oh, he's gone for an armbar! Syd has his hands clasped together but Hughes breaks the hold and Syd is forced to tap! This one is aaaaaaaaaaall over! That was lightning fast by Hughes!
