Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Antonio Rua!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Brandi Montague!
The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Daniel Cesar and Matheus Silva.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Montague looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Rua is fending him off so far but Montague persists. Nope, Rua circles away and we're back to standing.
Montague circles away from the clinch attempt.
Montague blocks a head kick by Rua.
Rua is looking to clinch.
Rua shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Montague counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Rua is lucky that one didn't land flush.
Montague throws a head kick but Rua moves out of range.
Rua misses with a takedown attempt

and Montague decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Rua's guard.

Montague drops back, looking for a kneebar! Rua looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Rua looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Rua!
Rua is breathing heavily.
Montague is trying to get back to half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Montague wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
Montague manages to get back to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Montague works his way to full guard. Good work.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Montague is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Rua gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Rua misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Montague shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Rua gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Montague must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Montague wants to control from the top but Rua keeps moving.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Montague looking to sit in guard and control but Rua gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Montague is on top in guard.
Montague tries to free his leg and advance position but Rua is retaining full guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Rua utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Montague is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Rua keeping moving, preventing Montague from controlling successfully.
Montague thows a big elbow that misses.
Rua is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Brandi Montague dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!


Montague rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Rua moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Montague shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Montague wants to lay and pray for a moment but Rua keeps working.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Montague passes the guard and advances to mount!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Montague goes for an armbar but Rua turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Rua.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Montague is looking to stand up but Rua isn't so interested in that idea.
Montague is trying to keep Rua in close.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Montague is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Rua tries to stand but Montague is controlling from the bottom.
Montague looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Montague working a defensive guard here.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Rua stopping the sweep attempt from Montague.
Rua might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Montague gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Rua counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Montague wants to get back to his feet.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Montague controlling the position for now.
Montague wants to improve his position but Rua is controlling well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Antonio Rua dominated that second round.
That's time! Rua's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Montague throws out a loose jab but Rua uses good head movement to avoid it.
Rua misses with a takedown attempt

so Montague counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Montague looking to sit in guard and control but Rua gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Montague bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Rua's guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Rua keeping moving, preventing Montague from controlling successfully.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Rua preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

Montague drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Rua dives on top into guard.
Montague pulls Rua in to control the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Rua trying to stand up but can't free himself from Montague's guard.

Montague scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Antonio Rua is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Montague gets the takedown into side control.
Rua is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Montague has just dragged him back down to the mat.

Montague tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Montague working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Rua is trying to escape and get back to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Montague is trying to get an arm triangle but Rua is defending well.

Montague swings around for an armbar but Rua sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Montague's guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Brandi Montague comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Montague has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
