PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Musaka Kawasaki (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Shuai Jiao (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Musaka Kawasaki looks tired to me. Hopefully he has got enough gas left in the tank to put in a good performance.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Musaka Kawasaki!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Shuai Jiao!
The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Kenichi Hosakawa and Hirohito Nitta.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Jiao gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Jiao is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Jiao should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Jiao manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Kawasaki manages to get himself to full guard.
Kawasaki looking to hit a scissor sweep but Jiao is one step ahead there.

Jiao is looking to advance position but Kawasaki won't allow it.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Jiao stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Kawasaki to get to his feet.

Jiao decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Jiao wants to control the pace but Kawasaki is squirming around nicely.

Jiao is fighting to break Kawasaki's control of his arms but Kawasaki is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Kawasaki controls Jiao momentarily but Jiao frees himself.

Kawasaki looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Jiao passes into half guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Kawasaki is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Jiao stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Kawasaki swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Kawasaki misses with a leg kick.

Kawasaki tries for a kimura but Jiao is defending well.

Kawasaki tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Kawasaki has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Kawasaki creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Jiao sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Musaka Kawasaki will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Kawasaki fails with the takedown

and Jiao counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Kawasaki scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Jiao manages to mount him!

Jiao stands up from mount. Strange move.
Jiao is looking to clinch but Kawasaki is avoiding it.
Kawasaki tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.

Jiao moves into range and clinches up with Kawasaki.

Jiao pulls guard.

Jiao has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Kawasaki can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Jiao controls Kawasaki momentarily but Kawasaki frees himself.

Jiao is looking for a triangle but Kawasaki pushes his legs off easily.
Jiao is breathing heavily.

Kawasaki advances to half guard.

Jiao is desperately trying to improve his position but Kawasaki has a good base and remains in mount.

It looks like Shuai Jiao has been cut.
Kawasaki looking to control but Jiao is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

Kawasaki takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Jiao is desperately trying to improve his position but Kawasaki has a good base and remains in mount.

Kawasaki lands a big elbow.

Kawasaki has control of Jiao's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Jiao regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Jiao really trying hard to get back to half guard here.

Kawasaki moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Jiao has worked his arm free - good work by Jiao!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Kawasaki is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Jiao is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Jiao sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Jiao is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Jiao is trying to maintain the position but Kawasaki is very close to passing his half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Kawasaki looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Jiao manages to escape and get back to his feet!
Shuai Jiao seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Jiao tries for a takedown but Kawasaki circles away easily

and Kawasaki counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Jiao holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.

Kawasaki decides to stand up.
Jiao throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Kawasaki's waist but Kawasaki gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Jiao off to one side.

Jiao gets caught flat footed, as Kawasaki shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Kawasaki stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Jiao swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Jiao looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Jiao is trying to control the position from the bottom.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Kawasaki stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Jiao swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Kawasaki wants to control from the top but Jiao keeps moving.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Musaka Kawasaki will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Shuai Jiao's cut.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!



Kawasaki feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Jiao is trying to control the position but Kawasaki postures up.
Jiao looking to hit a scissor sweep but Kawasaki is one step ahead there.
Kawasaki pushes down on Jiao's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Jiao wants to get back to his feet.
Kawasaki works his foot free and advances to mount.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kawasaki lands with some strikes.

Jiao takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Kawasaki is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Jiao!

Jiao is rocked!

Kawasaki working from mount. He moves in close and looks like he might be going for an arm triangle... He's hopped off to the side and he's transitioned into an Anaconda choke. Jiao turning a nasty shade of purple. He's refusing to tap but he's gone! He's out! The ref rips Kawasaki off and cradles Jiao's limp body as Kawasaki celebrates with his corner.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:35 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Anaconda Choke). Musaka Kawasaki!
