PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jorma Kirves (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Teemu Lilleberg (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Jorma Kirves has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Jorma Kirves seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jorma Kirves!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Teemu Lilleberg!
The judges for this bout are Roosa Järviläinen, Tarja Halkonen and Anni Minnemäki.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lilleberg throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Some wild striking there from Lilleberg.
Lilleberg misses with a double jab.
Lilleberg will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Kirves throws a good cross that connects.
Teemu Lilleberg seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Lilleberg moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Kirves cracks Lilleberg with a good jab.
The crowd cheers as Kirves lands an impressive looking overhand right. Lilleberg doesn't seem phased though.
Kirves throws a right and a left that both miss.
Kirves lands a nice shot to the body.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Lilleberg falls off balance throwing a combination
and Kirves counters with a stiff right hand.
Lilleberg looks gassed!

Kirves throws a big overhand right that connects, sending Lilleberg tumbling to the canvas!


Lilleberg is rocked!
Lilleberg preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Kirves lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Kirves controls from within his opponent's guard.

Kirves trying to control the position from guard on top but Lilleberg is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Kirves throwing strikes but missing.

Kirves stops Lilleberg from standing up.
Kirves is looking to work some ground and pound but Lilleberg has wrist control.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Kirves is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Kirves stands up and waves to Lilleberg to follow him.
Lilleberg throws a left and a right that both miss
and Kirves counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Kirves darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Lilleberg has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Kirves finds it's way round the side to connect with Lilleberg's head.
Lilleberg takes a body punch but keeps moving.

Kirves drops Lilleberg with a left and a right! Oh, Lilleberg is hurt - Kirves dives into side control looking to finish!
Lilleberg is still in real trouble! Can Kirves finish him?
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kirves has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Lilleberg seems to have recovered his senses.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Kirves stands up and beckons Lilleberg to his feet.
Nice straight punches there by Kirves. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Kirves.
Kirves tries to bum rush Lilleberg with a series of wild strikes but Lilleberg uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Lilleberg throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Kirves cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Kirves dips to his left and cracks Lilleberg with an uppercut!

Kirves drops Lilleberg with a big left hand and mounts him. Lilleberg is in big trouble!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Kirves content just to control the position here.
Kirves pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
A nice elbow there by Kirves.

Kirves controlling from the full mount.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Lilleberg avoids a series of strikes thrown by Kirves.
Kirves pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Kirves controlling his opponent.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Kirves's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jorma Kirves dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Kirves drops Lilleberg with a left right combo! Kirves follows him down to the ground into side control.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Jorma Kirves just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
Nice straight punches there by Kirves. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Kirves.
Lilleberg throws a combination that misses

and Lilleberg is countered with a crisp right hand from Kirves that sends him to the canvas! Kirves follows him to the mat into side control.
Kirves has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Kirves landing a few strikes.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Kirves slows the pace down.
Kirves fails to land a wild elbow strike.

Kirves has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Lilleberg on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.

Lilleberg is breathing heavily.

Kirves with a hook.
Kirves scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.

Kirves lands a jab followed by a vicious hook that sends Lilleberg sprawling to the canvas. Kirves follows him down, looking for the kill. Can Lilleberg hang on?

Kirves content to control rather than advance.
Kirves moves nicely into side control.
Kirves lands a few punches from side control.

Kirves is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Kirves throwing strikes but missing, from side control.
Lilleberg dodges the ground and pound from Kirves.
Lilleberg is working to avoid the ground and pound but Kirves connects with a decent elbow.
You can see the frustration on Lilleberg's face as Kirves controls the position.
Lilleberg is looking to get back to his feet here but Kirves is keeping cool and he's managed to take Lilleberg's back.
Lilleberg is being controlled on the ground here - he must escape this position otherwise surely the end is near.

Lilleberg covering up well under a barage of strikes.
Lilleberg really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Kirves. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Kirves cracks Lilleberg with a big shot to body and one to the head - really punishing Lilleberg from the back mount here, looking to soften him up.
You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Jorma Kirves just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
Lilleberg throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Kirves counters with a nice body shot.
Lilleberg takes one on the chin but seems OK.
A jab from Kirves does it's job there.
Kirves connects with a stiff jab that staggers Lilleberg - oh and he follows up with a huge uppercut that knocks him out cold! Man, that was brutal!
