Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Barney Fife (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and George Whissell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fife's entrance music is Transfiguration #1. A fine choice. Whissell comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Rose Of Sharon kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! George Whissell has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Barney Fife!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 17 - 7 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, George Whissell!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Stewart Dunkirk and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fife ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Whissell throws the left hand but Fife avoids the punch easily.

Fife gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Fife looking for a sweep. Not yet Fife, not yet.
Whissell throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Fife works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Whissell stopping the sweep attempt from Fife.
Whissell tries to stand but Fife is controlling from the bottom.

Whissell got a little sloppy there for a moment and Fife has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Whissell has managed to get both his arms back between Fife's legs - danger averted.
Whissellis looking to pass into half guard but Fife pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Fife is in guard.

Fife bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Whissell's guard.

Fife stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Whissell swivels though and keeps the full guard.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Whissell can't keep his opponent in guard - Fife advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Whissell is in trouble now - Fife has advanced to mount!
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Fife cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Whissell is in a horrible position here. Fife smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Whissell really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Fife fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Whissell avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Fife looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Whissell is fending him off so far but Fife persists. Nope, Whissell circles away and we're back to standing.

Whissell postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Whissell drops back looking for a leg! Fife is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Fife manages to kick Whissell off! Whissell jumps back into Fife's guard.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Fife throws a head kick that half lands.
Whissell misses with a two punch combination.
Whissell scores with a one two! Fife had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.

Fife darts in and clinches Whissell up against the cage.
Fife fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Whissell's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Whissell connects with a right hand. Fife shakes it off.
Fife moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Whissell misses with a hook.
Whissell keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Whissell throws a chopping leg kick but Fife manages to avoid taking any serious damage.

Whissell had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Fife defends it easily.

Whissell has one foot on Fife's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
Whissell stalks Fife and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Fife's face. Fife staggers backwards, shaken.

and Whissell counters with a nice uppercut.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

George Whissell showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Fife looks to score with a jab to the body but Whissell is just out of range.

Fife shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Whissell as he avoids it easily.

Fife throws a leg kick which misses Whissell's front leg but catches the back leg as Whissell tries to avoid it.
Whissell will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

The fighters circling - Whissell throws out the jab but it was never going to land.

Whissell lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Fife circles away quickly and effectively.

Whissell rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Fife moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Fife stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Whissell.
Whissell throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.

Fife closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Fife lands in his opponent's guard.

George Whissell comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Whissell has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
