PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Joe Rogan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dan Coen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Joe Rogan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Dan Coen!
The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, Jorge Garcia and David Schapiro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Coen decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Rogan regains full guard. Nicely done.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Rogan working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Coen doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Coen manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Coen must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Rogan is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Coen wants to control from the top but Rogan keeps moving.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Coen wants to pass the guard but Rogan is keeping the position.

Coen pulls Rogan in close to his closed guard and prevents Rogan from doing any damage or advancing position.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Rogan clinches up against the cage.
Coen goes for a takedown in the clinch but Rogan prevents it.
Good anti-grappling being displayed by Coen as Rogan tries to tie him up.

Coen has picked Rogan up - he's going for a ride! Coen dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Coen seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Rogan does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Rogan makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Rogan.

Coen stops Rogan from standing up.
Coen seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Rogan wants to get back to his feet but Coen is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Rogan wants to sweep here but Coen controlling him for the moment.

A close round but Dan Coen will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Coen shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Coen missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Coen really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Rogan. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Still in half guard, Coen seems content to control.
Coen prevents Rogan from improving his position.
Coen wants to lay and pray for a moment but Rogan keeps working.
The fighters are battling for position here. Rogan manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Coen controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Coen sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Rogan's guard.
Coen seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Rogan is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Coen's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Coen's back!

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Coen breaks Rogan's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
Coen lands a couple of digs.
Coen controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Coen stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Rogan swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Coen not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Rogan controls Coen momentarily but Coen frees himself.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Coen is looking to take a break and control but Rogan is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Rogan is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Coen pulls his head out easily.

Coen takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Coen frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dan Coen showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Coen wants to control from the top but Rogan keeps moving.

Rogan is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Coen rolls with it to try and escape but Rogan cranks on the arm and Coen is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!
