Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ali Newman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chan Tapanakara (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Newman's entrance music is Truth Is. A fine choice. The key to victory for Ali Newman has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ali Newman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Chan Tapanakara!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Frank Dennis and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A punch combination from Newman misses.
Newman jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Newman connects with the punch.
Tapanakara slips a straight right by Newman.
Newman pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Newman throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Newman looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Newman rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Tapanakara moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Tapanakara tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Newman throws a series of punches but Tapanakara moves out of range.
Tapanakara checks the leg kick.
Newman throws a looping overhand right but Tapanakara ducks down to avoid it.
Newman throws a right and a left that both miss.
Newman throws a head kick that misses

and Tapanakara counters with a nice double leg into side control. Newman won't be happy with that.

Tapanakara is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Newman knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Tapanakara prevents Newman from escaping the position.

Tapanakara working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Tapanakara trying to control the action but Newman is working from the bottom.
Tapanakara misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Newman is letting Tapanakara control him for a moment.

Newman knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Tapanakara on the ground.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Tapanakara goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Newman has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Tapanakara but great work by Newman.

Tapanakara can't do much from the bottom here.
Newman tries to stand but Tapanakara controls the position and pulls Newman into his guard.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Newman lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Tapanakara is trying hard to land a takedown here. Newman sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Tapanakara prevents Newman from standing back up.

Tapanakara is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Newman defends it well.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Newman is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Tapanakara is controlling him well.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Tapanakara just content to control the position.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Tapanakara tries for a kimura but Newman is defending well.
Newman tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck.

Tapanakara looking for a guillotine from mount but Newman is having none of it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Chan Tapanakara showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Tapanakara shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Newman but Newman pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Newman throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Tapanakara.

Tapanakara closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Chan Tapanakara has got the better of the ground game so far.
Tapanakara thows a big elbow that misses, also allowing Newman to regain full guard.

Tapanakara has gone for a leg lock! Newman slips out almost immediately though and dives into Tapanakara's guard.

Tapanakara takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Newman tries to stand but Tapanakara is controlling from the bottom.
Tapanakara bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Newman's guard.
Tapanakara wants to control from the top but Newman keeps moving.
Newman working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Tapanakara.
Tapanakara trying to control the position from guard on top but Newman is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Tapanakara trying to move into half guard but instead Newman has managed to sweep!

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Newman stands up from Tapanakara's guard - Newman perhaps looking for a knockout.
Newman swings for the body but Tapanakara moves out of range.
Newman lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Tapanakara circles away quickly and effectively.
Tapanakara tries a head kick but it misses.
Newman displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Tapanakara.
Horrible takedown by Tapanakara or perhaps it was just good defense by Newman which made him look bad.
Ali Newman has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Chan Tapanakara.

and Tapanakara counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Tapanakara.

Tapanakara drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Tapanakara jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Tapanakara drops back, looking for a kneebar! Newman looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Newman looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Newman!
Tapanakara tries to buck Newman off but Newman is having none of it.

Newman stands up.
Chan Tapanakara is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Tapanakara fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
A big right from Newman misses.
Newman will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Newman swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Tapanakara shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Tapanakara throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Newman was covering up waiting for the punch and Tapanakara finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Chan Tapanakara comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Tapanakara winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
