PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Roberto Calassa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Caio Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Roberto Calassa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Caio Silva!
The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Felipe Paraventi and Seu Braga.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Silva forces Calassa back against the cage and clinches.

Silva pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Silva fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Calassa, pushing him back against the cage.
Silva prevents a takedown attempt there.
Silva will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Calassa up against the cage.
Silva digs a right hand into Calassa's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Calassa's gas tank.
Silva presses Calassa against the cage and delivers a mid-strength body shot.

Calassa is trying to trip Silva. He has hold of a leg but Silva is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Calassa persists though and gets the takedown into guard.

Silva is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Calassa is controlling him.

Calassa stands and throws Silva's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Silva is trying to control Calassa's posture but Calassa avoids it.
Silva tries to contro but end up mounted... ooooh, that's bad.
Calassa prevents Silva from getting the reversal.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Calassa jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Silva manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Silva wants to control but Calassa postures up.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Calassa is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Silva knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Calassa is trying to get an arm triangle but Silva is defending well.

Calassa tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Calassa has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Calassa is breathing heavily.
What's Silva going to do here then? He's in a bit of a pickle.

Silva can't do much from the bottom here.

Calassa tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Calassa has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Silva really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Calassa. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Calassa is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Silva knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
You can see the frustration on Silva's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Both fighters take a look at the clock.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Roberto Calassa dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Silva decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Despite being in the dominant position, Caio Silva just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Calassa shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Silva counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Silva tries to stand but Calassa is controlling from the bottom.
Calassa will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Silva got a little sloppy there for a moment and Calassa has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Silva has managed to get both his arms back between Calassa's legs - danger averted.

Silva gets to his feet - Calassa follows without any prompting.

Silva tries a head kick but it misses.
Calassa circles away from the clinch attempt.
Calassa gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Silva counters with a single leg into guard. Calassa didn't expect that.

Calassa is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Silva got a little sloppy there for a moment and Calassa has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Silva has managed to get both his arms back between Calassa's legs - danger averted.

Calassa throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Silva tries to free his leg and advance position but Calassa is retaining full guard.

Silva postures up.

Silva stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Calassa walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Silva checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
Silva swings for the body but Calassa moves out of range.

Silva looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Calassa!
Calassa tries to hold on but Silva pushes him away.
Calassa is squirming around, avoiding Silva's attempts to control the action.
Calassa's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Calassa is working to get back to half guard.

Silva gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks!
Silva pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Calassa keeps the fight on the outside.

Silva instigates a clinch.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
A short uppercut from Silva.
Silva gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Calassa.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Roberto Calassa. That's going to take a lot out of him.
The referee is keeping an eye on Silva - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Caio Silva showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!



The fight moves into the clinch position.
Silva stops a takedown attempt from Calassa.

Silva's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Silva throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Silva is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Silva clinches with his opponent.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Silva manages to break the clinch.

Silva clinches up with Calassa and pushes him back against the cage.
Silva cracks Calassa with a nice body shot.

Silva landing knees to the head.

Silva breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Silva takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Silva has Calassa up against the cage in a clinch.
Calassa tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Silva smiles and moves away.
Calassa walks into a stiff left hand from Silva.
Calassa avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

and Silva counters with a shoot takedown. Calassa fights it but they end up in guard.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Roberto Calassa. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Silva wants to control from the top but Calassa keeps moving.
Silva must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Calassa had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Silva defends it easily.
Calassa is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Calassa is thwarting Silva's attempts to control the position.

Calassa uses his free foot to push down on Silva's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Silva.
Silva tries to hold on but Calassa pushes him away.
Calassa throws some wild stikes that Silva manages to avoid easily.
Silva tries to lock up and control but Calassa gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Calassa blocks Silva's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Calassa jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Silva manages to avoid the submission attempt.

Caio Silva comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Silva has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
