PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Mickey Avalon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Julio Escobar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Avalon kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Mickey Avalon - Mr. Right. Buckle up people - heeeeeeeeeere we go!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Mickey Avalon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Julio Escobar!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Avalon misses with a jab, cross combination.

Escobar has taken the fight to the clinch.
Avalon wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Escobar prevents a body shot from Avalon.
Escobar fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Escobar throws a head punch that misses.
Escobar fails to pull guard.
Escobar misses with a punch to the body.
Escobar tries to score a body lock takedown but Avalon shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Mickey Avalon has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Julio Escobar.
Escobar is working for takedown but Avalon is calmly controlling the position for now.
Escobar lands a body shot in the clinch.
Escobar misses with a hook from the clinch.
Escobar has Avalon pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Avalon manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Escobar moves in looking to clinch but Avalon pushes him off.
Escobar cracks a nice hook into Avalon's ribs.
Escobar lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Avalon at a distance.
The fighters circling - Avalon throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Avalon misses with a two punch combination.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Avalon swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.

Escobar closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Avalon did well to prevent Escobar getting side control.
Avalon is breathing heavily.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Escobar is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Avalon is just riding it out for now. Escobar eventually gives up the hold.

Escobar is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Avalon is trying to maintain the position but Escobar is very close to passing his half guard.
Escobar wants to pass to mount but Avalon is defending the position.
Escobar is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Escobar has control of Avalon's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Avalon regains control of the situation pretty easily.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Escobar is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Avalon has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Avalon!

Avalon thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Escobar looking for a sweep. Not yet Escobar, not yet.
Escobar manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Avalon manages to get himself to full guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Escobar accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Escobar trying to control the position from guard on top but Avalon is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Avalon knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Escobar on the ground.

Avalon is looking for a triangle but Escobar pushes his legs off easily.
Avalon is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Escobar is controlling him.
Escobar slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Escobar is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Escobar is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Avalon is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Avalon has escaped and now he's on top!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Escobar closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Avalon is trying to improve his position.
Escobar wants to control but Avalon is keeping him busy.
Escobar in side control, just content to control the action for now.

Avalon is trying to control Escobar's posture but Escobar avoids it.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Avalon tries a head kick but it misses.
Avalon tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Donk. Escobar catches Avalon right on the button with a cross.
A jab from Escobar finds it's way through Avalon's defenses.
Avalon misses with a straight left.
Escobar shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Escobar fails to pull guard.

Escobar feints and as Avalon raises his hands in defense, Escobar changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Avalon stuffs the takedown attempt from Escobar. Escobar gets slowly back to his feet.

Escobar drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Escobar looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Avalon is looking to reverse the position.

Escobar is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Avalon is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Avalon manages to work his way to half guard, despite Escobar's best efforts.

Julio Escobar showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Avalon's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

Escobar shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Avalon wants to control but Escobar is having none of it.

Escobar is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Avalon is surviving well by controlling Escobar's body position as best he can.
Avalon tries to reverse the position but Escobar maintains control.

Escobar swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Avalon is now in Escobar's guard. A big mistake from Escobar there, giving up the dominant position!
Avalon wants to get up but he can't break Escobar's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Julio Escobar has got the better of the ground game so far.

Escobar is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Avalon trying to control the position from guard on top but Escobar is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Escobar avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Avalon would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Escobar holds on and takes a little breather.

Avalon distracts Escobar with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Avalon misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Escobar is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Avalon's half guard.
Escobar tries to pass to full mount but Avalon defends it.
Escobar wants to take a breather but Avalon is having none of it.

Horrible takedown by Escobar or perhaps it was just good defense by Avalon which made him look bad.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
The fight stays on the outside here - Avalon looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Avalon dodges the ground and pound from Escobar.

Julio Escobar is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Escobar has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Avalon!

Julio Escobar comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Escobar has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
