Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Richard Fairfax!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Cody Elkins!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Chris Downing and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Elkins misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Elkins shoots in but no luck this time.
Fairfax moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Elkins fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Richard Fairfax has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Cody Elkins.

Elkins is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Fairfax's half guard.
Fairfax trying to control from the bottom.
Fairfax regains full guard. Nicely done.
Elkins trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Elkins controlling from the top position.
Fairfax tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Elkins advances position into side control!
Fairfax takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.

Elkins looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

Fairfax avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Elkins.

Elkins is trying to get an arm triangle but Fairfax is defending well.
Fairfax tries to bench press Elkins off him but Elkins keeps the position.

Elkins thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Fairfax is looking for a sweep.
Fairfax wants to control but Elkins postures up.
Fairfax parries the strikes from Elkins easily there. Elkins is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Fairfax to escape.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Elkins shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Fairfax as he avoids it easily.

Fairfax closes the distance and pushes Elkins back into the cage.
Fairfax lands a body punch in the clinch.
Elkins looks gassed!
Fairfax tries to land knees in the clinch but Elkins avoids the damage to the body.

Elkins jumps guard.

Elkins looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Elkins is looking for a triangle but Fairfax pushes his legs off easily.
Fairfax is looking to work some ground and pound but Elkins has wrist control.
Fairfax postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Fairfax postures up in Elkins's guard and throws a big left but Elkins blocks it.
Fairfax works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Elkins has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Elkins looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Elkins wants to improve his position but Fairfax is controlling well.
Fairfax passes to full mount!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Elkins is desperately trying to improve his position but Fairfax has a good base and remains in mount.
Fairfax looking to ground and pound but Elkins is blocking nicely.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Fairfax thowing shots but they're missing.
Elkins wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Fairfax.
Fairfax prevents Elkins from getting the reversal.
Fairfax unloads with some shots from mount but Elkins bucks and avoids them well.
Elkins manages to regain half guard. Good work.

Elkins has hold of a guillotine but he's not going to be able to crank on it really with only half guard, so it's no trouble for Fairfax. Oh but Elkins has got full guard now! Oh boy! This one could be over very soon! Fairfax goes limp - he's gone! Elkins jumps up and celebrates with the crowd - fantastic submission finish!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:02 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Cody Elkins!
