PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Lu Kang (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mason Allen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Allen has chosen Korn - Blind as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Lu Kang!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Mason Allen!
The judges for this bout are Eddie Farnsworth, Dean Styles and David Schapiro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kang lands a nice hook to Allen's body. Allen takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Kang with a nice cross.
Allen keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Kang.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Allen.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Kang checks a leg kick.
Kang moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
Allen looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Kang is fending him off so far but Allen persists. Nope, Kang circles away and we're back to standing.
Allen slips a jab and a cross from Kang.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Allen gets a takedown into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Allen is looking for a kimura but Kang is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Allen to get the leverage.
Kang tries to kick Allen off but Allen keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Allen wants to control but Kang is keeping him busy.
Allen frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Kang wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.

Allen has control of Kang's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Kang regains control of the situation pretty easily.
You get the feeling that Kang really doesn't like being in this position too much.

Allen looking to secure an arm triangle but Kang defends it well.
Allen wants to take Kang's back but he can't do it this time.
Allen looks gassed!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Kang is trying to stand up.

Allen working for a submission but Kang is keeping him at bay.
Kang stops Allen from taking his back. Still, being mounted isn't any better.
Kang is trying to stand up.

Allen wants to finish this one by submission but Kang is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Allen.
Kang's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
Allen with some aggressive grappling here, looking for the finish.

Allen goes for an armbar but Kang turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Kang.
Kang wants to get up but he can't break Allen's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Allen looking for a guillotine here but Kang defends easily.
Allen has a closed guard, preventing Kang from standing up.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mason Allen dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Allen misses with a low kick.
Kang throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Allen.
Allen looks to score with a jab to the body but Kang is just out of range.
Allen shoots in but no luck this time.
Lu Kang is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Kang loads up on a big right hand but Allen slips the punch.
Kang misses with a few strikes there.
Kang leaves Allen with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Allen shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Allen stops Kang from getting back to his feet.

Allen is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Kang is just riding it out for now. Allen eventually gives up the hold.
Allen is breathing heavily.
Kang looks like he's trying to stand up.

Allen is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Kang sees it coming and defends easily.

Allen is trying to work for a kimura but Kang is defending well.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Allen is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Kang is just riding it out for now. Allen eventually gives up the hold.
Kang looks like he's trying to stand up.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Kang lands with an uppercut that bounces Allen off the cage and back into rage.
Allen gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.

Allen throws a leg kick but Kang moved away.
Some bone on bone action there as Kang checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Kang lands with a shot to the body.
Kang throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Allen.
Kang misses with a two punch combination.
Allen closes this distance looking for a takedown but Kang circles away.
Lu Kang has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mason Allen.
Kang throws a combination. Allen tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
Allen does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.

Allen shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Allen wants to work for an arm triangle but Kang is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Kang is trying to stand up here but Allen is controlling him well.

Allen looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Allen wants to pass the guard but Kang is defending well.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Allen stops Kang from getting back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mason Allen showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!



Allen is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Kang's half guard.

Allen thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Kang tries to escape but Allen is in control.

Allen looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Kang misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Kang throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Kang misses with a wild combination.
Lu Kang is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Allen misses with a telegraphed body shot
and Kang counters with a left and a right that stings Allen.
Allen has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.

Allen scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Allen works to advance to full mount. Kang defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.
Allen won't let Kang get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.
Allen trying to control but he's not successful this time.

You get the feeling that Kang really doesn't like being in this position too much.

Allen goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Kang turns into him and now he's in Allen's guard.
Allen looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Kang has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Allen has his foot on Kang's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Kang works his way back into a safe position though.
Kang wants to stand but Allen is controlling his posture from full guard.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Allen looking to hit a scissor sweep but Kang is one step ahead there.
Allen is trying to control the position from the bottom.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Lu Kang has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Allen escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Kang gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

And that's the end of the fight!
Mason Allen comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Allen winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
