PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Alexander Gustavsson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Yeovil Tiger (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gustavsson comes to the cage accompanied by nate dogg - regulators. Tiger is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Delilah by Tom Jones. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 6 - 0, fighting out of London, Alexander Gustavsson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Yeovil Tiger!
The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, Colin Fotheringham and Andrew Berry.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No joy there for Gustavsson, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Gustavsson misses with a head kick.

Gustavsson lands a left and a right that send Tiger crashing to the mat, dazed. Gustavsson thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!


It looks like Yeovil Tiger has been cut.

Tiger clinches up with Gustavsson and pushes him back against the cage.
Gustavsson tries to break the clinch but Tiger is controlling the position.

Tiger changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Gustavsson fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Yeovil Tiger seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Tiger wants the takedown. Gustavsson is fighting it off but Tiger persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Gustavsson's guard against the cage.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

That was a close round but I would say that Alexander Gustavsson will probably get the nod.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Tiger closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Gustavsson to the mat! Gustavsson manages to get full guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Despite being in the dominant position, Yeovil Tiger just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Tiger shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Tiger was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Let's hope that Tiger has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

You get the feeling that Gustavsson really doesn't like being in this position too much.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Yeovil Tiger showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Gustavsson throws a hook but Tiger blocks it.
A nice leg kick lands there from Tiger.

Tiger drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Gustavsson has had enough of the clinch but Tiger keeps him there for the moment.
Gustavsson wants to get back to striking at distance but Tiger won't allow it.
Tiger is trying to drag Gustavsson to the mat but Gustavsson just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Alexander Gustavsson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Yeovil Tiger.

Gustavsson pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Tiger uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Gustavsson.

Tiger shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Gustavsson manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Tiger tries to free his leg and advance position but Gustavsson is retaining full guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Tiger shoots in looking for a takedown. Gustavsson tries to sprawl out of it but Tiger keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Gustavsson manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Gustavsson is pressed up against the cage. Tiger has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Gustavsson down to the mat. Gustavsson avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Tiger swats away the attempt to clinch by Gustavsson.
Alexander Gustavsson is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Tiger lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Tiger.
Tiger shoots in and drives through. Gustavsson sprawls well.

and Tiger counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Yeovil Tiger comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Tiger has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
