PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Seb Carter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and David Reid (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Carter's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Tequila-Knock you out. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Seb Carter!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, David Reid!
The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, Colin Fotheringham and Paul Tew.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Reid closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Reid lands in his opponent's guard.
Reid controlling from the top position.
Reid really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Carter. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Carter keeping moving, preventing Reid from controlling successfully.

Reid avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Reid preventing the sweep.

Carter is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Reid forces his way into half guard.
Carter is looking to improve his position.
Carter is looking to control Reid's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Carter avoid being mounted?
Reid is keen to just control but Carter is a slippery customer.
Carter is trying to get back to full guard.
Reid is looking to advance position but Carter won't allow it.
Carter is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Reid's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Reid's back!

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Reid is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Carter gets his way!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Carter looking to break Reid's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Reid remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Carter will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!
Carter is breathing heavily.
Reid trying to control the hands but Carter won't let him.
Reid can't escape the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Reid rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.
Reid is looking to escape.

Carter looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Reid manages to get to full guard.

Reid looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Reid has his feet on Carter's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
Reid closes the distance and clinches up with Carter, looking for a takedown. Reid pushes Carter against the cage but Carter circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Carter shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Reid counters with a takedown into side control.
Reid working away.

A control attempt from Carter but he's now mounted!
Reid tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Reid can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Carter is looking to escape.
Reid working the ground and pound effectively.
Reid sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Reid trying to control but he's not successful this time.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but David Reid will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Carter shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Reid counters with an inside leg kick.
Reid fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Seb Carter seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Reid is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Carter displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination.
Carter throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Carter throws a series of strikes that have Reid backpedaling.
Carter really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Horrible takedown by Carter or perhaps it was just good defense by Reid which made him look bad.
Reid throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

Reid shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Carter wants to sweep here but Reid controlling him for the moment.
Carter manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Reid can do anything to dispel that myth.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Reid is looking to get to half guard.

Reid defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Carter.

Carter goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Reid turns into him and now he's in Carter's guard.
Reid is pushing down on Carter's leg trying to pass to half guard. Carter is fighting to maintain full guard but Reid has managed to sneak the leg through.

Reid decides to return to a standing position.

Reid looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Carter trying to control here.

Reid is looking to take a break and control but Carter is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Reid perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Reid blocks the strikes from Carter.
Reid is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Well, if Reid is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Reid wants to pass the guard but Carter is defending well.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Carter works his way to full guard. Good work.
Reid won't allow Carter to sweep him here.
Carter avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Reid loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Carter looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Carter has momentary wrist control but Reid slips an elbow through the middle.
Carter is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Reid postures up and lands a big shot to Carter's brow.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but David Reid will probably get the nod - 10:9.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Carter fails with the takedown

and Reid counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Carter!
Carter is wriggling around trying to escape.
Carter reaches up to try and control the position but Reid seems to have an arm triangle now! Uh oh! Carter rolls and tries to escape and now Reid has his back!
Reid is trying to stick to Carter's back but Carter is turning into Reid. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Reid's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Carter.

Reid is working an open guard so Carter takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Reid gets the takedown into side control.
Reid lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Carter down.
Carter is looking to reverse the position.
Reid working away.
Carter is trying to get back to half guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Reid tries to advance to mount but Carter denies him.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Carter blocks the body kick.
Carter misses with the combination.

Carter closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Carter lands in his opponent's guard.

Carter has gone for a leg lock! Reid slips out almost immediately though and dives into Carter's guard.
Reid content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.

Reid would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Reid preventing the sweep.
Reid looking to sit in guard and control but Carter gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Carter wants to get up but he can't break Reid's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Reid keeping moving, preventing Carter from controlling successfully.

Carter is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Seb Carter has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Carter drops back, looking for a kneebar! Reid looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Reid looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Reid!
Reid remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Carter tries to buck Reid off but Reid is having none of it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Reid controls the position.
David Reid has got the better of the ground game so far.
Reid's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Reid is working Carter over with some ground and pound from side control.
Carter gets back to half guard.
Reid is trying to control the action in half guard but Carter is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Carter regains full guard. Nicely done.
Carter manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Carter tries to stand up but he's trapped just for the moment.

And that's the end of the fight!
David Reid comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Reid winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
