PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ralph Vincent Gapuz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Zacharius Pendragon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ralph Vincent Gapuz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Zacharius Pendragon!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Frank Dennis and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A punch combination from Pendragon misses.
Gapuz tries for a takedown but Pendragon sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Pendragon doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Gapuz decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Pendragon's guard.
Pendragon looks gassed!
Gapuz makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.


Pendragon is rocked!
Gapuz wants to stand but Pendragon has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Gapuz wants to control from the top but Pendragon keeps moving.
Gapuz slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Gapuz trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Pendragon can do anything to dispel that myth.
Gapuz passes Pendragon's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Gapuz trying to control from half guard but Pendragon is working away.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Pendragon is looking to control Gapuz's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Pendragon avoid being mounted?
Gapuz frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Gapuz has control of Pendragon's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Pendragon regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Pendragon is wriggling around trying to escape.
Gapuz can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Pendragon is looking to escape.
Gapuz landing punches.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Gapuz raining down shots from the mount!
Pendragon is trying desperately to improve position.
Pendragon is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Gapuz looking to secure an arm triangle but Pendragon defends it well.
Gapuz has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Pendragon's face.
Pendragon is still in real trouble! Can Gapuz finish him?

Pendragon tries to lock up and control but Gapuz gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Pendragon seems to have recovered his senses.
Pendragon regains half guard.

Gapuz is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Gapuz stops Pendragon from getting back to his feet.
Gapuz slips a nice elbow through Pendragon's hands, connecting with Pendragon's forehead.
Pendragon slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Pendragon has control of Gapuz's left arm, preventing Gapuz from doing any damage.
Gapuz wants to stand but Pendragon has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Pendragon keeping moving, preventing Gapuz from controlling successfully.
Pendragon can't keep his opponent in guard - Gapuz advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Gapuz is tying to control. Pendragon wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Pendragon tries to kick Gapuz off but Gapuz keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Pendragon tries to clinch but Gapuz moves out of range.

Pendragon pushes Gapuz up against the cage in a clinch.
Pendragon with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
Pendragon wants to break the clinch but can't.
Pendragon tries to pull guard but Gapuz holds him up against the cage and eventually Pendragon drops back down to his feet.

Gapuz is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Pendragon pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Pendragon can't break the clinch.
Gapuz wants a takedown but no success here.
Gapuz is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Pendragon tries to break the clinch but Gapuz is controlling the position.
A nice glancing elbow lands by Pendragon.
Pendragon wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Gapuz goes for a takedown in the clinch but Pendragon prevents it.
Pendragon stops a takedown attempt from Gapuz.
Pendragon tries for a takedown. No joy.
Pendragon throws a nice elbow but it doesn't land.
Pendragon lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Gapuz or not.
Gapuz using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Pendragon has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.

Pendragon escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Gapuz wants to clinch.
Pendragon gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Gapuz counters with a nice double leg into side control. Pendragon won't be happy with that.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Pendragon stops Gapuz from passing to mount.
Pendragon gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Gapuz wants to control but Pendragon is keeping him busy.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Pendragon postures up in Gapuz's guard and throws a big left but Gapuz blocks it.

Gapuz pulls Pendragon in close to prevent any damage.
Gapuz is trying to keep Pendragon in close.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Gapuz is on top in guard.

Pendragon uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Pendragon tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Gapuz paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Left hook, right uppercut from Pendragon.

Pendragon closes the distance and clinches.
Pendragon tries to land knees in the clinch but Gapuz avoids the damage to the body.
Pendragon is trying to maintain a safe position but Gapuz gets an underhook and turns Pendragon into the cage.
Gapuz is looking to control Pendragon's arms but Pendragon gets an underhook and turns him. Now Gapuz has his back to the cage.

Gapuz goes for a takedown attempt but Pendragon pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Gapuz closes the distance and clinches up with Pendragon, looking for a takedown. Gapuz pushes Pendragon against the cage but Pendragon circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Pendragon feints and as Gapuz raises his hands in defense, Pendragon changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Gapuz looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Gapuz is on top in guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Pendragon has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Gapuz can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Gapuz is pushing down on Pendragon's leg trying to pass to half guard. Pendragon is fighting to maintain full guard but Gapuz has managed to sneak the leg through.

Pendragon wants to get back to full guard.
Pendragon is trying to stand up here but Gapuz is controlling him well.

Gapuz is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Gapuz trying to control from Pendragon's half guard. Pendragon has other ideas though and has regained full guard.
Pendragon wants to sweep but no luck.

Pendragon is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Gapuz is controlling him.

Gapuz drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Gapuz jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Pendragon closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Gapuz has Pendragon pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Pendragon manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Pendragon is pressed up against the cage. Gapuz has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Pendragon down to the mat. Pendragon avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Gapuz shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Pendragon but Pendragon pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Pendragon wants to clinch up but Gapuz keeps it at a distance.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Gapuz.

Gapuz is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Pendragon has escaped the position, nice work there.

Gapuz has hold of Pendragon's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Pendragon seems comfortable defending it but Gapuz has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Pendragon is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Pendragon is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Gapuz couldn't care less - he's delighted!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:34 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Ralph Vincent Gapuz!
