PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Monkey King (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tim Campbell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Monkey King!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Tim Campbell!
The judges for this bout are Matti Vanhoillinen, Anni Minnemäki and Johanna Lukiainen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

King darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
King performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
King could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

That's one minute gone in the round.
King seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Campbell for as long as he can get away with.
King wants to pass to mount but Campbell is defending the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

King is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Campbell is looking to get back to is feet but King passes into side control.
Campbell is pushing King's head away, looking to escape. King manages to hold on to the position though.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Campbell taking punishment in the form of punches.
A lull in the action here.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Monkey King just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
Campbell connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Campbell misses the shot to the body.

Campbell shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

Campbell is working for an americana but King has been sneaky and has managed to get back to half guard, whilst Campbell was thinking about the submission.
King is pulling down on Campbell's head to control his posture.

Campbell has gone for a leg lock! King slips out almost immediately though and dives into Campbell's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Monkey King dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!


Campbell tries to close the distance and clinch up but King swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Campbell misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

King forces his way into half guard.
King is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Campbell is breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Campbell is looking to improve his position.

Campbell makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Campbell.
King's corner is telling him to maintain position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
King advances to half guard.

King is looking for a kimura but Campbell is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for King to get the leverage.
Campbell is looking to improve his position.
Well, if King is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
King wants to pass the guard but Campbell is defending well.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Campbell tries to kick King off but King keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Campbell wants to control but King is keeping busy.
King has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
King tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
BOOM! King connects with a massive shot to the dome!
King takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

King is going olschool here, as he tries to force Campbell to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Campbell shrugs it off.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
King controlling his opponent.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Monkey King dominated that second round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. And we move into the final round!



Campbell gets caught flat footed, as King shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Campbell being controlled here, momentarily.
King has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
King postures up.

That's one minute gone in the round.
King stays in close to Campbell's body and controls the position.

King avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Campbell takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Campbell can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as King controls the pace.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Monkey King just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
Campbell throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent King stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Campbell fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but King is out of range.
Monkey King is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
King tries to land a front kick but Campbell steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Campbell has his takedown stuffed

and King counters with a shoot takedown. Campbell fights it but they end up in guard.
King's corner is telling him to maintain position.

King thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
King sitting in guard, not really doing much.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Campbell is trying to control the position from the bottom.
King stopping the sweep attempt from Campbell.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
King slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Monkey King showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for King, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
