PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Anthony De Luca (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jeff Hanson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). De Luca comes to the cage accompanied by Megalomaniac. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Anthony De Luca !
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jeff Hanson!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Trevor Gratis and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hanson shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Hanson missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Hanson is trying to control the action in half guard but De Luca is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Hanson tries to pass the half guard into mount. De Luca knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Hanson working over De Luca with some ground and pound. De Luca looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Hanson looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks De Luca with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Hanson decides to stand up.

Hanson is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in De Luca 's half guard.

Hanson has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Hanson has control of De Luca 's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and De Luca regains control of the situation pretty easily.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
De Luca is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
De Luca bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Hanson has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. De Luca is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Hanson.
De Luca wants to stand but Hanson is controlling his arm.

De Luca stands up and we're back to a striking position.
The fighters circle momentarily. De Luca darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
De Luca throws a lazy right hand but Hanson sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Hanson looks to score with a jab to the body but De Luca is just out of range.

De Luca looks to land a combination but Hanson avoids it well.

De Luca throws a right hand that Hanson ducks under and follows up with a left that Hanson also avoids with ease.
De Luca is breathing heavily.
De Luca throws a series of punches but Hanson moves out of range.

Hanson looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Well, if Hanson is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

De Luca is looking to control Hanson's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can De Luca avoid being mounted?
Hanson content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

Hanson decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.

Hanson feints and as De Luca raises his hands in defense, Hanson changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
De Luca is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jeff Hanson dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Hanson feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Hanson decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on De Luca , up you get!
De Luca fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
De Luca misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
De Luca dodges the ground and pound from Hanson.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
De Luca misses with a wild combination.

De Luca wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Hanson is trying to work for a single leg takedown but De Luca pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Jeff Hanson showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!



Hanson shoots in and bounces De Luca off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Hanson wants to control from the top but De Luca keeps moving.
Hanson pushes down on De Luca 's leg and manages to get into half guard.

Hanson sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed De Luca 's guard.
De Luca is trying to maintain the position but Hanson is very close to passing his half guard.
Hanson drops an elbow to the side of De Luca 's head.
Hanson is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and De Luca reverses the position - he's now on top in Hanson's guard.

Hanson is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! De Luca has his hands clasped together but Hanson extends an breaks De Luca 's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Hanson.
