PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Doug Lacey (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nathan Corbett (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Doug Lacey!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Nathan Corbett!
The judges for this bout are Franklyn Lucas, John Roberts and Jorge Garcia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Horrible takedown by Lacey or perhaps it was just good defense by Corbett which made him look bad.
Corbett looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
Corbett throws a head kick that half lands.
Lacey uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Corbett.
Lacey moves out of range as Corbett throws a body kick.

Corbett rushes Lacey and presses him up against the cage.
Lacey tries a body shot but Corbett blocks it.

Corbett is leaning against Lacey and scores with a nice uppercut to the body.
The referee is keeping an eye on Corbett - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Lacey gets through Corbett's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.

It looks like Doug Lacey has been cut.

Corbett keeps control of Lacey as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Corbett's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

Corbett has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Lacey clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
Lacey is really stuck here.

Lacey is covering up but some of the strikes from Corbett are getting through and doing damage.
Corbett lands with a nice looking elbow that stuns Lacey.

Corbett is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Lacey defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.

Corbett has his opponent's back and is working for the choke.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.
Lacey is trying to break free.

Corbett is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Lacey defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Lacey rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.

Corbett is working for a submission of some sort.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Lacey wants to improve his position but Corbett is controlling well.
Lacey is looking to control Corbett's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Lacey avoid being mounted?

Corbett is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Corbett is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Lacey is just riding it out for now. Corbett eventually gives up the hold.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Lacey drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Corbett is looking for a sweep.
Lacey grinds an elbow into Corbett's temple.
Corbett tries to bench press Lacey off him but Lacey keeps the position.
Lacey is putting a hurting on Corbett here, landing some big shots from side control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Lacey postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Corbett has one of Lacey's arms on lockdown, trying to prevent him from doing any damage.
Corbett tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Lacey wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Corbett can't do much from the bottom here.
Lacey scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Corbett to see if he's OK.
Lacey works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Corbett is looking for a sweep.
Corbett manages to work his way to half guard, despite Lacey's best efforts.
Lacey is nestled in close to Corbett, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Nathan Corbett dominated that round.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Lacey fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Corbett sprawls well initially but Lacey persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Lacey stops Corbett from getting back to his feet.
Corbett tries to roll over but Lacey keeps him under control.
Doug Lacey overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Lacey scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Corbett avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Lacey.
Lacey wants to free his trapped foot but Corbett is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Lacey thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Corbett's head.
Lacey throwing shots but Corbett is blocking nicely.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Lacey fails with a takedown attempt.
Corbett throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Lacey.
Nathan Corbett seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Corbett keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Doug Lacey is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Corbett knocks Lacey to the floor with a head kick! Can he finish him!?

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Corbett looks up at the clock and then as Lacey takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Corbett smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Oh Lacey is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!

Corbett is working for what looks like an arm triangle here. Lacey is trying to escape and Corbett transitions quickly into an armbar! He's slapped it on tight and Lacey is forced to tap! Nice work there by Corbett! Very nice indeed!
