PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Lenny Monroe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Takeshi Miura (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Monroe's entrance music is Stay Fly. A fine choice. Miura has chosen Ryuichi Sakamoto - Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Lenny Monroe!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Takeshi Miura!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Tiny Johnson and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Monroe misses with a few strikes there.
Monroe jabs Miura right on the nose. Miura blinks but takes it well.
Miura fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Monroe manages to avoid it.
Monroe misses with a double jab.
Miura throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Takeshi Miura seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Miura lands a left and a right that send Monroe crashing to the mat, dazed. Miura thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!


Monroe is rocked!


It looks like Lenny Monroe has been cut.
Miura tries to bum rush Monroe with a series of wild strikes but Monroe uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Oh Monroe is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Miura takes a swing at Monroe's ribcage but misses.
Miura misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Monroe.
Monroe seems to have got his legs back now.
Monroe is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Monroe looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Monroe is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Miura knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Miura can do anything to dispel that myth.

Monroe is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Miura is just riding it out for now. Monroe eventually gives up the hold.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Miura is concentrating on defense, preventing Monroe from advancing position.
Miura's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Monroe accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Monroe keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Miura's head.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Monroe seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Miura does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Miura is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Monroe's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Monroe's back!
Miura really has the hooks in deep now - there seems like no escape for Monroe.
Monroe manages to reverse the position and now he's in Miura's guard. Nice work there by Monroe.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Miura throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.

Despite being in the dominant position, Takeshi Miura just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Monroe displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Miura throws out the jab.
Miura takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Monroe fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Miura checks it well.
Monroe tries to score a power double leg takedown but Miura sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Monroe somewhat.

Monroe feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
