PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Alan Kong (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Quentin Burrows (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Quentin Burrows told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Alan Kong!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Quentin Burrows!
The judges for this bout are James Glass, James Ackerman and Daniel Bishop.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kong misses with a double jab.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Kong.
Kong trying to control the action but Burrows is working from the bottom.
Burrows is looking for a sweep.
Kong tries to advance to mount but can't.
Kong wants to stand but Burrows has his arm trapped.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kong is staying tight to Burrows's torso, preventing him from escaping.
Burrows is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Burrows sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.

Kong is working for a submission of some sort.
Burrows tries to roll over but Kong keeps him under control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kong seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Burrows does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Kong looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Kong tries to stand and escape but Burrows is controlling the position.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Kong fails in his attempt to clinch.
Burrows doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Kong counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Kong drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Burrows wants to sweep but no luck.
Kong is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Kong is breathing heavily.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Kong trying to stand up but can't free himself from Burrows's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Alan Kong dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Burrows scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Kong tries to bench press Burrows off him but Burrows keeps the position.

Burrows is trying to get an arm triangle but Kong is defending well.

Burrows is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Kong knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Burrows swings around for an armbar but Kong sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Burrows's guard.
Burrows is breathing heavily.
Burrows can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Kong controls the pace.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kong has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Burrows is proving hard to escape from.
Kong showing good wrestling skills to control the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Kong with a nice head shot there.
Kong passes Burrows's left leg - he's now in half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kong thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Burrows's head.
Kong trying to control the action but Burrows is working from the bottom.
Kong moves into full mount! Burrows won't be happy about that!
Kong prevents Burrows from getting the reversal.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Kong is in the full mount, landing strikes.
Burrows tries to reverse the position but Kong maintains control.
Burrows sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
Kong tries to stand but his arm is trapped.
Burrows is looking to improve his position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Quentin Burrows showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!



Kong shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Kong wants to free his trapped foot but Burrows is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Burrows moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Kong has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kong looking to sit in guard and control but Burrows gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Kong on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Kong tries to get out of the position.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Burrows trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Kong wants to sweep here but Burrows controlling him for the moment.
Kong knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Burrows on the ground.

Burrows drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Burrows jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Kong working a defensive guard here.

Burrows has gone for a leg lock! Kong slips out almost immediately though and dives into Burrows's guard.
Kong slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kong tries to stand but Burrows is controlling from the bottom.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Kong is stalling in the full guard.
Kong trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Alan Kong overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

And that's the end of the fight!
Alan Kong showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Kong has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
