The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

McCarthy shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Monson's guard.
McCarthy postures up.
Monson pulls McCarthy in close to prevent any damage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
McCarthy trying to control but Monson is working from the bottom.
McCarthy wants to stand but Monson is controlling his posture from full guard.
Monson manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. McCarthy manages to get himself to full guard.
McCarthy will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Monson drops back looking for a leg! McCarthy is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and McCarthy manages to kick Monson off! Monson jumps back into McCarthy's guard.

Monson throws a strike but McCarthy rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Monson has his hands on McCarthy's head, controlling the position.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Monson has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Monson is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Monson lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for McCarthy!

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Monson has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of McCarthy's body.

Monson working from the back looking to end the fight with a rear naked choke. McCarthy is doing well to defend. Monson seems to have got his hand under the chin though and he's sunk the choke in! McCarthy is forced to tap and this one is over!
