PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Berticcus Maximus (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and frank mir (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Maximus tries to clinch but mir is having none of it.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
mir is working for takedown but Maximus is calmly controlling the position for now.

Maximus pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Maximus shoots in but no luck this time.

mir drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
mir is looking to work some ground and pound but Maximus has wrist control.

Maximus looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
mir trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Maximus is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
mir sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Maximus's guard.

Maximus gets back to full guard.
mir wants to get up but he can't break Maximus's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as mir accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

mir should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

and mir counters with a nice double leg into side control. Maximus won't be happy with that.
mir wants to lay and pray for a moment but Maximus keeps working.
mir looks up at the clock and then as Maximus takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, mir smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Maximus is trying to control mir's posture but mir avoids it.
mir taking a break here but Maximus is having none of it and regains half guard.
Maximus is looking to improve his position.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
mir is pressing down on Maximus's thigh, looking to free his foot. Maximus is holding on for now.
Maximus tries to roll over but mir keeps him under control.
Maximus regains full guard. Nicely done.
Maximus tries to land a sweep but no joy.
mir works over Maximus with some ground and pound from guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

mir gets caught flat footed, as Maximus shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Maximus thows a big elbow that misses.

Maximus is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because mir is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

mir is in trouble now - Maximus has advanced to mount!
Maximus is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. mir can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

mir is not content to let Maximus control the position.
mir won't allow Maximus to pass to mount.

Maximus is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, mir has managed to free his arm - good work.

Maximus seems to be looking for submissions.
mir is looking to control Maximus's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can mir avoid being mounted?
mir tries to roll over but Maximus keeps him under control.

Maximus looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
mir looks to land a body kick but Maximus moved away.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
mir tries to clinch up but Maximus circles away and keeps his distance.
mir displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Maximus.
Maximus fails with the takedown.
Maximus misses with a takedown attempt - mir sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Maximus is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.
mir is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Maximus pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Maximus changes levels and goes for a takedown here. mir fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Maximus drives through and clinches with mir against the cage.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from mir is defended easily by Maximus.

Maximus fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with mir, pushing him back against the cage.

Maximus is trying to wear down his opponent with knees to the body.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.
Maximus gets a warning from the ref for wasting time.

Maximus unloads a knee to the mid-section. mir lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh.
Maximus drops down looking for an ankle pick but mir pulls his leg out and moves away.
A head kick from Maximus lands but mir takes it in his stride.
Maximus tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but mir paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Maximus moves into range and clinches up with mir.
Maximus lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.
Maximus will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning mir up against the cage.
Maximus lands an elbow just above mir 's eye.
mir wants to break the clinch but can't.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Maximus creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Maximus is trying to wear down his opponent with knees to the body.
Maximus's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
mir has a couple of punches blocked by Maximus.
A bit of stalling here from Maximus.
mir is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Maximus is keeping busy.
Maximus lands a hook to the side of the head.
Maximus lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of mir backwards.

Maximus breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Maximus lands a head kick. mir smiles back at him and beckons him forward.

It looks like frank mir has been cut.

and Maximus moves into the clinch.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Maximus goes for a takedown attempt but mir pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
