Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Rio Nakisaki (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Paul Thiago (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). John Paul Thiago has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Rio Nakisaki!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, John Paul Thiago!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Thiago swats away the attempt to clinch by Nakisaki.
Thiago misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Nakisaki moves in looking to clinch but Thiago pushes him off.
Nakisaki fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Thiago keeps the fight on the outside.
Left hook, right uppercut from Thiago.
Nakisaki is looking to clinch but Thiago is avoiding it.
Thiago swats away the attempt to clinch by Nakisaki.
Nakisaki has a takedown stuffed.
Thiago will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Nice takedown defense from Nakisaki. No joy for Thiago on that attempt.

Nakisaki moves into the clinch.
Nakisaki lands a hook to the side of the head.
Thiago is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Nakisaki pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Nakisaki gets control of Thiago's arms and successfully pulls guard. Nakisaki will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Thiago seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Thiago drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Nakisaki dives on top into guard.
Thiago is trying to keep Nakisaki in close.
Nakisaki trying to control but Thiago is working from the bottom.

Nakisaki has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Thiago is proving hard to escape from.
Thiago preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Nakisaki missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Nakisaki lands with a nice combination. Thiago backs away looking to recover.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Nakisaki, right into the meat.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Nakisaki throws a sloppy head kick and Thiago moves out of range easily.
Thiago shoots in looking for a takedown. Nakisaki tries to sprawl out of it but Thiago keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Nakisaki manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Rio Nakisaki has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Paul Thiago.
Thiago tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Nakisaki circles away from the clinch attempt
and Nakisaki counters with a big head kick but Thiago shrugs it off.
Thiago swats away the attempt to clinch by Nakisaki.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Thiago shoots and misses
and Nakisaki counters with a low kick, right behind Thiago 's knee.

Thiago shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Thiago was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Nakisaki is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rio Nakisaki dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Thiago avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Nakisaki tries to clinch but Thiago is having none of it.
Thiago takes a kick to the side of the head.

Nakisaki closes the distance and clinches.
Thiago tries to break free but Nakisaki pushes him back against the cage.

Nakisaki breaks the clinch.
Nakisaki fails with an attempt to clinch.
Thiago falls off balance throwing a combination
and Nakisaki counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Thiago is lucky that one didn't land flush.
Thiago has a takedown stuffed.
Rio Nakisaki is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Thiago circles away from the clinch attempt.

Thiago tries to clinch but Nakisaki moves out of range.

Thiago changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Nakisaki looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Nakisaki gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Nakisaki wants to get back to full guard.
Thiago is thwarting Nakisaki's attempts to control the position.
Nakisaki avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Thiago.
Nakisaki wants to control but Thiago is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Nakisaki wants to improve his position but Thiago is controlling well.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Thiago swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Thiago keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Thiago shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Nakisaki as he jumps to the side.
Nakisaki fails in his attempt to clinch.
Nakisaki connects with a solid leg kick.
Thiago tries to clinch but Nakisaki moves away
and Nakisaki counters with a lovely straight right hand!

Thiago bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Nakisaki tries to improve position but can't.

Thiago is trying to get an arm triangle but Nakisaki is defending well.
Thiago taking a break here but Nakisaki is having none of it and regains half guard.
Nakisaki is not content to let Thiago control the position.
Nakisaki is looking to improve his position.

Thiago is keen to just control but Nakisaki is a slippery customer.
Nakisaki is trying to maintain the position but Thiago is very close to passing his half guard.
Thiago wants to control but Nakisaki is keeping him busy.
Nakisaki tries to roll over but Thiago keeps him under control.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Thiago throws a series of punches but Nakisaki avoids them all with ease.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Rio Nakisaki will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Nakisaki is looking to improve his position but Thiago isn't that keen on the idea.

Thiago is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Nakisaki has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Nakisaki!
Nakisaki looking to sit in guard and control but Thiago gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Thiago wants to control from the top but Nakisaki keeps moving.
Thiago pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Nakisaki is keeping the position for now.

Thiago wanted to stand there but Nakisaki had control of the position.
Nakisaki trying to keep a closed guard but Thiago is proving a slippery customer.
Thiago's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Thiago in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Nakisaki is trying to control the position but Thiago postures up.
Rio Nakisaki is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Thiago takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.

Nakisaki pushes Thiago up against the cage in a clinch.
John Paul Thiago has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Nakisaki turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
Nakisaki wants to control but Thiago is keeping him busy.

Nakisaki decides to stand back up.
Nakisaki wants to clinch up but Thiago keeps it at a distance.
Nakisaki clinches but Thiago breaks the clinch

and Thiago counters with a shoot takedown. Nakisaki fights it but they end up in guard.
Thiago stopping the sweep attempt from Nakisaki.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Thiago stands up from guard. Let's bang!

And that's the end of the fight!
John Paul Thiago comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Nakisaki has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
