PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Dwayne Carter Jr (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mike Ness (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Carter Jr comes into the arena with Stranglehold by Ted Nugent blaring out of the sound system. Mike Ness is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dwayne Carter Jr!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mike Ness!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Wesley Smith and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Carter Jr is looking to clinch but Ness is avoiding it.
Ness throws a right and a left that Carter Jr avoids nicely.
Carter Jr slips a straight right by Ness.
Ness scores with a nice strike.
A jab from Ness does it's job there.
Ness punishes Carter Jr's body with a nice straight punch.
Ness is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Carter Jr.
Ness blocks a head kick by Carter Jr.
Carter Jr bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Ness connects with a body shot.
Ness misses the jab.
No joy there for Ness, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Ness pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Ness takes a body kick right on the floating rib. Ouchie.

Ness throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Carter Jr tries to clinch there but Ness circles away.
Ness keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Carter Jr moves in looking to clinch but Ness pushes him off.
Ness throws a combination. Carter Jr tries to block but a couple of punches get through.

Carter Jr gets a takedown into half guard.
Ness gets full guard.
Ness wants to sweep here but Carter Jr controlling him for the moment.
Carter Jr stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Ness swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Carter Jr is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Ness is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Ness has escaped and now he's on top!

Ness chips away with some ground and pound.
Ness looking to pass the guard.
Carter Jr not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Ness avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Carter Jr escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Ness gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Ness pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Carter Jr is keeping the position for now.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Carter Jr is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Carter Jr manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Ness wants to hold on but Carter Jr pushes him away.

Carter Jr goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Ness turns into him and now he's in Carter Jr's guard.
Ness must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Ness wants to stand but Carter Jr has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Carter Jr can't keep his opponent in guard - Ness advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Ness is trying to control. Carter Jr wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Ness tries to pass the half guard into mount. Carter Jr knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Ness wants to control but Carter Jr is keeping him busy.

Ness stands up from half guard.
Ness jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Carter Jr staying out of range there.
Carter Jr tries to clinch but Ness is having none of it.
Carter Jr takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Carter Jr takes a shot to the body in his stride.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mike Ness dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

The fight stays on the outside here - Carter Jr looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Carter Jr throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Ness throws a looping overhand right but Carter Jr ducks down to avoid it.
Ness misses with a hook. Carter Jr ducked under it nicely.
Carter Jr closes this distance looking for a takedown but Ness circles away.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ness lands a nice looking body shot.
Ness throws out a loose jab but Carter Jr uses good head movement to avoid it.

Carter Jr throws a head kick that misses.
Ness throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Carter Jr sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Carter Jr steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Ness.
Ness wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Carter Jr walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Ness fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Carter Jr manages to avoid it.

Dwayne Carter Jr is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Ness throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Ness misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Ness is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Carter Jr.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Carter Jr throws a nice head kick!
Ness misses the jab.

Carter Jr pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Ness loads up on a big right hand but Carter Jr slips the punch.
Ness fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Carter Jr manages to avoid it.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Ness, as that shot connected.
Ness misses with a hook. Carter Jr ducked under it nicely.
Ness jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Ness throws a shot to the body.
Carter Jr takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.

Carter Jr tries to bum rush Ness with a series of wild strikes but Ness uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Carter Jr keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Ness misses with a combination
and Carter Jr counters with a leg kick.
The fighters circling - Ness throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Carter Jr shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Ness as he jumps to the side.

and Carter Jr counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
Ness avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Carter Jr fails in his attempt to clinch.
Ness connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.

Mike Ness is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

and Carter Jr counters with a nice leg kick.
Ness scores with a one two! Carter Jr had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.

and Carter Jr counters with a head kick.
Mike Ness seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Carter Jr tries to clinch up but Ness circles away and keeps his distance.
Ness throws a jab but it's blocked by Carter Jr.
Ness lands a head shot.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mike Ness showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Carter Jr's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

Ness utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Ness is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Ness is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

Carter Jr postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Ness is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Carter Jr, into his guard.

Ness wants to pass the guard but Carter Jr is keeping the position.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Ness tries to control but Carter Jr wriggling away.
Ness looking to control and managing it successfully.
Ness avoids the attempt from Carter Jr to control.

Ness takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Ness can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Carter Jr is looking to escape.

Despite being in the dominant position, Mike Ness just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Mike Ness is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Ness lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.

I would just about give that final round to Mike Ness.
Well Ness has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
