PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Michael Corleone (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ted Maul (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Maul has chosen Pig Destroyer - Piss Angel as his entrance music. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Maul shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Maul dives in and grabs Corleone's left leg, looking for a takedown. Corleone pushes down on Maul's head and hops out.
Maul looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Michael Corleone has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ted Maul.
Corleone thows a body shot but no joy.
Michael Corleone seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Corleone tries to land a leg kick but Maul saw it coming and moves away.

Corleone feints and as Maul raises his hands in defense, Corleone changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Corleone slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Maul takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Corleone lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.

Corleone tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Corleone has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Corleone wants to lay and pray for a moment but Maul keeps working.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Maul really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Corleone. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Maul is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Corleone is just riding it out for now. Maul eventually gives up the hold.
Maul stalling away here and it's allowed Corleone to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.

Maul throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Maul doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Corleone counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Maul's guard now.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Maul shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Corleone counters with a shoot takedown. Maul fights it but they end up in guard.
Corleone stays in close to Maul's body and controls the position.

Corleone has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Maul looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Maul shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Corleone is looking to improve his position but Maul isn't that keen on the idea.

Maul is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Corleone has escaped the position, nice work there.
Corleone gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Corleone is doing well to control the position and prevent Maul from advancing to side control.
Maul looks to land a strike but Corleone avoids it nicely and regains full guard.

Maul stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Maul gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Corleone counters with a nice uppercut.
Corleone misses with a few strikes there.

Maul clinches.

Corleone throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Maul works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Maul shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Corleone's guard.

I would just about give that final round to Ted Maul.
