PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Jonathan Suda (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Roger Delve (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Suda comes to the cage accompanied by Lahaina Grown. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jonathan Suda!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Roger Delve!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Delve shoots in looking for a takedown. Suda tries to sprawl out of it but Delve keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Suda manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Suda shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Suda showed some decent athleticism there.
Suda prevents Delve from improving his position.
Suda sitting and controlling from the half guard.
Suda knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Delve on the ground.
Delve wants to improve his position but Suda is controlling well.
Delve moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Delve manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Delve throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Delve goes for an armbar but Suda turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Suda.
Suda stands up over Delve, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Suda working some strikes from top position.

Delve has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Suda can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Delve looks gassed!
Suda keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Delve's head.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Suda is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Suda trying to control the position from guard on top but Delve is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Delve is trying to control the position but Suda postures up.
Suda stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Delve swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Suda wants to control from the top but Delve keeps moving.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Suda shoots in and bounces Delve off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Delve looking to hit a scissor sweep but Suda is one step ahead there.

Suda stands up from Delve's guard - Suda perhaps looking for a knockout.

Suda shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Suda was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Delve is trying to escape the mount.
Suda with shots to the head and body - Delve looks very uncomfortable down there.
Delve regains half guard.
Suda trying to control from half guard but Delve is working away.

Delve regains full guard. Nicely done.
Delve looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Delve is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Delve wants to pass to mount but Suda is defending the position.
Suda is looking to improve his position.
Suda trying to control from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!



Suda shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Delve is wriggling around trying to escape.
Suda with the ground and pound from mount.
Suda tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Delve is working to get back to half guard.
Delve manages to regain half guard. Good work.
Delve wants to improve his position but Suda is controlling well.

Suda decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
A frustrated look appears on Suda's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Suda is pressed up against the cage. Delve has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Suda down to the mat. Suda avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Delve wants to clinch but Suda slips to the side

and Suda counters with a nice double leg into side control. Delve won't be happy with that.
Delve tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Delve is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Suda cracks Delve with an elbow. That is naaassty.
Delve is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Delve prevents Suda from improving position.
Delve sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Delve gets back to full guard.
Suda won't allow Delve to sweep him here.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Suda lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.

Delve working for a triangle but Suda defends it easily.

Suda thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Suda trying to control but Delve is working from the bottom.
Delve manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Delve wants to finish this one by submission but Suda is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Delve.

Delve looking to finish with strikes here!
Suda wants to try and get back to his feet.
Delve lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Suda hang on?
Delve with the ground and pound from mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Jonathan Suda will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Delve tries to clinch up
and Suda counters with a nice uppercut.
Roger Delve seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Delve steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Suda. That one must have hurt.

Suda scores a takedown into full mount!
Delve bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
Delve distracts Suda with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Delve throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Suda works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Delve thows a big elbow that misses.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Delve in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Delve trying to control but Suda is working from the bottom.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Delve throws a strike but Suda rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Delve is wriggling around but Suda manages to pass to half guard.
Delve moves into full guard.
Suda stopping the sweep attempt from Delve.

Suda got a little sloppy there for a moment and Delve has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Suda has managed to get both his arms back between Delve's legs - danger averted.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Delve has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Suda has passed into side control.
Delve is looking to reverse the position.
Jonathan Suda overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Suda working the head and body with strikes.
Suda scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Delve to see if he's OK.
Delve sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Suda is trying to control the action in half guard but Delve is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Delve is looking for a sweep. Suda is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Delve slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Suda won't allow Delve to sweep him here.
Jonathan Suda is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Suda looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Delve wants to sweep but no luck.
Delve is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Suda is controlling him.
Suda wants to control from the top but Delve keeps moving.

Delve throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Delve is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Suda has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Delve is trying to keep Suda in close.
Roger Delve has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Delve tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Delve manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Suda manages to get himself to full guard.
Delve makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Suda is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Roger Delve comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Suda has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
