PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between C Mehnutz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Leo Anselm (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mehnutz is coming into this fight with a significant injury, which will no doubt have an effect on his cardio. Leo Anselm told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Leo Anselm!
The judges for this bout are Paul Aken, Patrick Alders and Albert Achterberg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Anselm uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Mehnutz.
Mehnutz is breathing heavily.
Mehnutz misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Mehnutz clinches with his opponent.

Anselm breaks from the clinch.

Anselm drives through with a takedown into guard.
Anselm's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Anselm drops back looking for a leg! Mehnutz is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Mehnutz manages to kick Anselm off! Anselm jumps back into Mehnutz's guard.
Anselm wants to control from the top but Mehnutz keeps moving.

Anselm is stalling in the full guard.
Anselm pushes down on Mehnutz's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Anselm seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Anselm is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Anselm wants to take a breather but Mehnutz is having none of it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Anselm is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Mehnutz defends it well.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Anselm perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Anselm throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Anselm tries to stand but his arm is trapped.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Despite being in the dominant position, Leo Anselm just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Anselm throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Mehnutz's waist but Mehnutz gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Anselm off to one side.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Anselm doesn't manage to clinch there - Mehnutz circles away.
Anselm fails with an attempt to clinch.

Anselm shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Anselm was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Anselm throws some wild stikes that Mehnutz manages to avoid easily.
Anselm trying to control but Mehnutz is having none of it.
Mehnutz takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.

Mehnutz stops Anselm from taking his back. Still, being mounted isn't any better.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Anselm works his way to his opponent's back.

Mehnutz is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Anselm gets his way!
Anselm misses with punches from the back.

Anselm is persistently looking for the submission but Mehnutz is defending it well.

Well, with Anselm on his back, surely it's only a matter of time before Mehnutz is tapping out... Can he escape the position?

Anselm is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Mehnutz defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.

Mehnutz prevents Anselm from getting a body triangle.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Anselm tries to get the hooks in deep but Mehnutz pushed the leg off.

Anselm controlling the position well here. Mehnutz rolled but Anselm kept the hooks locked in and stayed in the dominant position.

Leo Anselm showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!



Mehnutz gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Anselm slips nicely into half guard.
Mehnutz is looking to control Anselm's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Mehnutz avoid being mounted?
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Mehnutz is defending against the submission attempts here by Anselm.

Anselm is trying to control the action in half guard but Mehnutz is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Anselm seems like he's working for an arm triangle here. He's freed his trapped foot and he's rotating nicely. Mehnutz is in big trouble! He's tapping out! This one is aaaaaaaaaaaall over!
