Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Doctor Ball (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Vic Sotto (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). This should be fireworks!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Doctor Ball!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Vic Sotto!
The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Seu Braga and Daniel Cesar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ball swats away the attempt to clinch by Sotto.
Sotto ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

Ball bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Ball working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Sotto is trying to control Ball's posture but Ball avoids it.
Ball works to advance to full mount. Sotto defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.

Ball wants to finish this one by submission but Sotto is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Ball.
Sotto is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

Ball has control of Sotto's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Sotto regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Sotto is wriggling around trying to escape.
Sotto tries to hold on but Ball postures up.

Sotto defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Ball.

Ball goes for an armbar but Sotto turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Sotto.
Sotto wants to control from the top but Ball keeps moving.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Sotto wanted to stand there but Ball had control of the position.

Ball is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Sotto is aware though and is defending well.
Ball manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Sotto manages to get himself to full guard.
Sotto is looking to stand up but Ball isn't so interested in that idea.
Ball pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Sotto is keeping the position for now.
Sotto wants to sweep here but Ball controlling him for the moment.

Sotto is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Ball postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Sotto is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Ball, into his guard.
Sotto tries to free his leg and advance position but Ball is retaining full guard.

Ball working for a triangle but Sotto defends it easily.
Sotto controls from within his opponent's guard.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Sotto won't allow Ball to sweep him here.
Sotto must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Ball seems keen to control Sotto's posture.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Ball has his foot on Sotto's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Sotto works his way back into a safe position though.
Sotto wants to control from the top but Ball keeps moving.
Ball is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Doctor Ball dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Ball lands a nice looking body shot.
Sotto has his takedown stuffed

and Ball counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Ball wants to pass the guard but Sotto is keeping the position.
Sotto trying to keep a closed guard but Ball is proving a slippery customer.
Ball slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Ball is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Sotto knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Ball is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Sotto is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Sotto isn't going anywhere.
Ball advances to full mount.
Ball tries to control but Sotto wriggling away.
Sotto is working to get back to half guard.
Sotto is squirming around, avoiding Ball's attempts to control the action.

Ball working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Sotto is looking to improve his position but Ball isn't that keen on the idea.
Sotto has given up his back - I don’t know if this is a deliberate ploy to try and escape or if he is just struggling down there.

Sotto defending nicely against the rear naked choke attempt.
Sotto tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!
Ball looking to control but Sotto is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Ball wants to take his opponent's back but Sotto doesn't allow it.

Ball trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Ball tries to push Sotto's head away but Sotto is holding on tight.
Ball pushing the pace here, looking to move to his opponents back and work for a finish.
Sotto is looking to get to half guard.

Ball moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Sotto has worked his arm free - good work by Sotto!
Ball has knee on belly and moves into mount.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Ball has hold of Sotto's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Sotto manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Sotto is working to get back to half guard.
Sotto is trying to stand.

Sotto defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Ball.
Ball trying to control but Sotto is having none of it.

Ball goes for an armbar but Sotto turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Sotto.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Doctor Ball dominated that second round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Sotto tries to clinch but Ball moves out of range.
Sotto gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Sotto moves out of range of the strikes.
Nice takedown defense from Sotto. No joy for Ball on that attempt.
Ball dives in and grabs Sotto's left leg, looking for a takedown. Sotto pushes down on Ball's head and hops out.
The fight stays on the outside here - Sotto looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Ball connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Ball circles away from the clinch attempt

and Ball counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Ball.

Sotto working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Ball looking to hit a scissor sweep but Sotto is one step ahead there.
Sotto really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Ball. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Ball is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Sotto has his hands clasped together but Ball extends an breaks Sotto's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Ball.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:43 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Doctor Ball!
