PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Pepper Edgar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Emelianenko D (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Pepper Edgar has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Pepper Edgar!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Emelianenko D!
The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, William Gold and Colin Fotheringham.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Edgar fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

D instigates a clinch.
Edgar goes for a takedown attempt but D pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Edgar fails with a takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Pepper Edgar. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Edgar has a takedown stuffed.
Edgar shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. D defends it nicely.
D misses with a takedown

and Edgar counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for D!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
D avoids a series of strikes thrown by Edgar.
D is desperately trying to improve his position but Edgar has a good base and remains in mount.
D is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.
Edgar throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

and D counters with a nice double leg into half guard.

Edgar is breathing heavily.
D perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
D seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
Edgar trying to get back to full guard but D takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount!

D with shots to the head and body - Edgar looks very uncomfortable down there.

D with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Edgar sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
Edgar is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
D is trying to work for a kimura but Edgar is defending well.
D is keen to just control but Edgar is a slippery customer.
D not doing much here.
Edgar is looking to escape.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Edgar wants to control but D is keeping busy.
Edgar is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because D is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Edgar throws a combination. D tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
D throws a front kick that sends Edgar stumbling back into the cage.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Edgar is defended easily by D.
The fight stays on the outside here - Edgar looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

and D counters with a shoot takedown. Edgar fights it but they end up in guard.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!



Edgar is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in D's half guard.
D has a hand on Edgar's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Edgar takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!

Edgar looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Edgar tries to control but D wriggling away.
D is wriggling around trying to escape.

Edgar looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.

D wants to control but Edgar is having none of it.
Emelianenko D has got the better of the ground game so far.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Edgar thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.
D is looking to improve his position but Edgar isn't that keen on the idea.
Edgar throwing strikes here but D is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.

Edgar is going olschool here, as he tries to force D to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so D shrugs it off.
D sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
D trying to control but Edgar postures up.
D tries to roll over but Edgar keeps him under control.
Edgar sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. D defending well though.
D scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Edgar manages to mount him!
Edgar thowing shots but they're missing.

Edgar avoids the attempt from D to control.

Edgar throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for D because Edgar loaded up on that one.

Edgar wants to finish this one by submission but D is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Edgar.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
D is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Edgar trying to control but D is having none of it.
Edgar avoids the attempt from D to control.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
D is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Edgar lands a big elbow.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Pepper Edgar dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


A really sloppy takedown attempt there from D.

Excellent takedown into side control there by D.
Edgar struggling a bit here.
Edgar is not content to let D control the position.
D working away.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Edgar is looking to reverse the position.

D prevents Edgar from escaping the position.
Edgar is looking for a sweep.
Edgar is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked D off and has taken his back!

Edgar lands a couple of good shots to his opponent's body and a final shot to the head. Good little attack there by Edgar.
D trying to control the position but Edgar manages to sink in the hooks.

D defends a rear naked choke attempt by controlling one of Edgar's arms.
D is trying to get back to his feet but Edgar has full control of the position and if anything, D has just worked his way into a worse spot.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

D avoids the strikes from Edgar.
D rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.
D works his way to full guard. Good work.
Edgar wants to stand but D is controlling his posture from full guard.

Edgar throwing strikes but missing.
Edgar stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. D swivels though and keeps the full guard.
D looking to control.
D is looking to sweep but instead, Edgar has passed into half guard.

D is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Edgar pulls his head out easily.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Edgar passes the guard and advances to mount!
Edgar misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
D tries to hold on but Edgar pushes him away.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
D is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.
Edgar lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Edgar cracks D with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Edgar content just to control the position here.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Pepper Edgar.
I think Edgar has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
