PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Rick Flare (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jax Peroni (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Flare might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Also Sprach Zarathustra. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.

The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, Eliza Hachem and Bruno Hogan.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
The fight stays on the outside here - Peroni looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Peroni throws a series of punches but Flare moves out of range.

Peroni gets caught flat footed, as Flare shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Flare drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Peroni manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Flare has Peroni in his guard.

Flare throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Peroni escapes and throws Flare's legs to the side, diving into side control!

Peroni decides to stand back up.

Flare shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Peroni defends it nicely.
Peroni just misses with a punch to the body.
Peroni tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Peroni rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Flare moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Peroni tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Flare paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Flare closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.

Peroni displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Flare.
Jax Peroni seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Flare is trying to reverse the position but instead Peroni has taken his back - oops!

Peroni is trying to stick to Flare's back but Flare is turning into Peroni. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Peroni's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Flare.

and Flare counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Flare throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Flare is looking for a kimura but Peroni is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Flare to get the leverage.
Flare is looking to stall here but Peroni recovers full guard.
Flare trying to move into half guard but instead Peroni has managed to sweep!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Peroni trying to control the position from guard on top but Flare is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Peroni must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Flare looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Peroni wants to control from the top but Flare keeps moving.

Flare is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Flare is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Flare is looking for submissions but instead, Peroni has regained full guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Flare postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Peroni is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Flare, into his guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Peroni throws a big right hand that misses.

Peroni stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Flare swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Flare tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Peroni trying to control but Flare is working from the bottom.
Flare is trying to control the position but Peroni postures up.
Peroni wants to control from the top but Flare keeps moving.

Flare isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Peroni stacks Flare on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Peroni!

Peroni has control of an arm but Flare manages to advance to Peroni's back!

Flare has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Peroni has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
Flare gets his hands free as Peroni looks to control.
Peroni prevents Flare from getting a body triangle.
Peroni manages to reverse the position and now he's in Flare's guard. Nice work there by Peroni.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Flare is looking to sinch up a triangle. Peroni throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Flare's body to avoid the submission. Flare has instead reached around Peroni's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Flare arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.
