The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Walkerton throws a sloppy head kick and Machida moves out of range easily.

Walkerton darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Machida is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Walkerton throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Machida tries to get to full guard but Walkerton has control of the leg.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Machida wants to get back to full guard but Walkerton has mounted him!
Machida is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

Walkerton looking for a guillotine from mount but Machida is having none of it.

Machida drops back, looking for a kneebar! Walkerton looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Walkerton looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Walkerton!
Machida tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Walkerton wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Walkerton lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Walkerton is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Machida!

Walkerton has control of Machida's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Machida regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Machida is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Walkerton looking to control but Machida is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Machida is trying desperately to improve position.
Walkerton will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Machida postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Walkerton is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Machida, into his guard.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Walkerton tries to close the distance and clinch up but Machida swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Walkerton trying to control the position from guard on top but Machida is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Machida is on top in guard.

Machida drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Walkerton dives on top into guard.

Machida isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Walkerton stacks Machida on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Walkerton!
