PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Tim Lynch (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jerry Cho (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lynch comes into the arena with The Doors-Break on through blaring out of the sound system. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Tim Lynch!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jerry Cho!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lynch misses the shot to the body.
Cho throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Cho throws a hook to the side of Lynch's head but Lynch sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Cho misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Cho misses with a double jab.
Cho takes a swing at Lynch's ribcage but misses.
Cho misses with a few strikes there.
Cho misses with a few strikes there.
Lynch bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Lynch lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Cho throws a big shot that misses.
Cho misses with a body shot
and Lynch counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Lynch swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Cho counters with a body kick that brings a smile to the face of both fighters.
Cho misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Cho misses with a double jab
and Lynch counters with a straight right hand.
Cho buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Cho misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Lynch throws a chopping leg kick but Cho manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
Cho pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Cho misses with an uppercut. Lynch saw that one coming.
Cho blocks a low kick nicely.
The fighters circling - Lynch throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Cho needs to keep his hands up - Lynch had a free shot at his head there.
Lynch throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Lynch swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Cho throws a sloppy head kick

and Lynch counters with a takedown into side control.
Lynch landing a few strikes.
Lynch is looking to take a break and control but Cho is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Cho is trying to get back to his feet.

Lynch tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Lynch is breathing heavily.
Cho stops Lynch from passing to mount.
Cho is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Lynch asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Lynch looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Cho is avoiding damage well.

Cho is trying to improve his position.
Cho is pushing Lynch's head away, looking to escape. Lynch manages to hold on to the position though.
Cho really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Lynch. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Cho tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Lynch wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Lynch tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Cho lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Lynch at a distance.
Cho looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Cho gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Lynch to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Lynch postures up.
Lynch pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Cho is keeping the position for now.
Cho is looking to stand up but Lynch isn't so interested in that idea.

Cho uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Cho tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
A punch combination from Cho misses.
Lynch is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Cho.


It looks like Tim Lynch has been cut.
Jerry Cho seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A combination from Cho does no damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Tim Lynch will probably get the nod.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Cho swings away with a leg kick that misses.
Some bone on bone action there as Cho checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Cho throws a left and a right that both miss
and Lynch counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Cho fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Cho throws a solid leg kick but Lynch takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Cho.
Lynch avoids a punch combination nicely.
Tim Lynch is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Cho slips a jab and a cross from Lynch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Lynch throws a head kick but Cho moves out of range.
Cho throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Cho swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Lynch counters with a stiff right hand.

Cho falls off balance throwing a combination
and Lynch counters with a stiff right hand.
Cho throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Lynch's head.
Lynch throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Cho.
Lynch throws a body kick that digs right into the meat.
Cho is breathing heavily.
Lynch thows a body shot but no joy.

Lynch decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Lynch trying to mount his opponent but Cho defends it.

Lynch is looking for a kimura but Cho is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Lynch to get the leverage.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Cho can do anything to dispel that myth.

Lynch is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Cho doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Lynch.

Cho holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.
Cho wants to get back to his feet.

Lynch is looking for a kimura but Cho is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Lynch to get the leverage.
Lynch blocks the strikes from Cho.
Cho tries to push off, looking to stand up, but Lynch manages to move to mount!
Lynch postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Cho looks a forlorn figure.

Cho is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Cho working to try and regain half guard.
Cho wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.
Cho is squirming around, avoiding Lynch's attempts to control the action.
Lynch lands a big elbow.
Cho tries to hold on but Lynch postures up.
Lynch prevents Cho from getting the reversal.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Cho wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.

Lynch looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.

Lynch is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Cho is surviving well by controlling Lynch's body position as best he can.
Cho is really trying hard to get back to his feet.
Cho is wriggling around trying to escape.
Cho tries to hold on but Lynch pushes him away.
Cho is looking to improve his position but Lynch isn't that keen on the idea.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Lynch scores with a leg kick.
Lynch ducks right into an uppercut from Cho.
Cho's corner calls for a 1,2 combination and Cho duly obliges.
Cho wants to slow Lynch down by chopping away at his legs.
Cho lands with an overhand left.
Cho misses with a double jab
and Lynch counters with a lovely straight right hand!

and Lynch decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Cho's guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Lynch sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Cho is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Lynch tries to free his leg and advance position but Cho is retaining full guard.

Lynch drops back looking for a leg! Cho is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Cho manages to kick Lynch off! Lynch jumps back into Cho's guard.

Tim Lynch overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Cho throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Lynch counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

and Lynch counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Lynch throws a leg kick that is checked
and Cho counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
A decent looking cross lands there for Cho.

Lynch throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Cho was covering up waiting for the punch and Lynch finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Lynch stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Cho swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Cho managing to control the position.
Cho wants to stand and escape but Lynch is having none of it.
Tim Lynch is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Cho can't keep his opponent in guard - Lynch advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Cho is trying to stand up here but Lynch is controlling him well.
Lynch uses his free foot to push down on Cho's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Cho.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Cho wants to control but Lynch is having none of it.
Cho is trying to stand up.
Cho really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Lynch tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Jerry Cho has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

And that's the end of the fight!
Tim Lynch showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Lynch, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
