The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Skinback closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Skinback stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Ground gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
Skinback lands on the inside with an uppercut.

Ground has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Skinback is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Paul Skinback has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Pounding Ground.

Ground has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Skinback is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Skinback has Ground pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Skinback pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Ground tumbling to the mat - Skinback dives into Ground's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Ground is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Skinback postures up in Ground's guard and throws a big left but Ground blocks it.
Skinback stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Ground swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Skinback throws a series of strikes that have Ground backpedaling.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Ground fails with the takedown
and Skinback counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Skinback fails to land with a short punch on the inside.

Skinback tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Ground's elbow.

Skinback has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Ground would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Ground passes Skinback's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Skinback is looking to control Ground's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Skinback avoid being mounted?
Ground seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
