Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Ted Mosby! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Fredward Benson! The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Trevor Gratis and William Peck.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Benson keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Benson stuffs the takedown. Benson moves into the clinch. Benson lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Benson throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Benson is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen. Mosby looking for submissions off his back. Benson controlling the action here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Benson thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Benson looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. Benson seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Mosby trying to hold on to Benson's head to control him but Benson postures up.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Benson defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Mosby. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ted Mosby. That's going to take a lot out of him. No joy there for Mosby, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Horrible takedown by Mosby or perhaps it was just good defense by Benson which made him look bad.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Mosby tries for a takedown but Benson sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. No luck for Mosby with that takedown attempt. Mosby is breathing heavily. Benson will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Excellent takedown into side control there by Benson. Benson is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position. Benson tries to advance to mount but Mosby denies him.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The referee asks Benson politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Benson prefers to stall for the moment though. Mosby is trying to control Benson's posture but Benson avoids it. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Mosby is trying to escape the position but Benson is controlling the position. Benson throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Mosby works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure. Mosby trying to control but Benson postures up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Fredward Benson dominated that round. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!
Mosby shoots and misses and Benson counters into the clinch. Nicely done. Mosby tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Benson smiles and moves away.
Benson closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Benson seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mosby won't allow Benson to pass to mount. Mosby has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Benson is working away from the top position though. Benson scores with a couple of good hammerfists. Benson is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Benson wants to pass to mount but Mosby is defending the position. Benson perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there. Benson stalling away here and it's allowed Mosby to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard. Benson slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Mosby looking to control.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Mosby is looking to stand up but Benson isn't so interested in that idea. Benson showing good wrestling skills to control the position. Benson trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Benson is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Benson wants to control from the top but Mosby keeps moving.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Mosby shoots in but doesn't get the takedown so Benson counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ted Mosby. That's going to take a lot out of him. Mosby working a defensive guard but Benson manages to pass into side control anyway.
Benson controls the position from side control. Benson is breathing heavily. Benson has knee on belly and moves into mount. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Fredward Benson showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!
Benson closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Mosby to the mat! Mosby manages to get full guard. Mosby looking to control.
Mosby will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Mosby keeping full guard, as Benson tries to pass. Mosby trying to keep a closed guard but Benson is proving a slippery customer.
Benson controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
That's one minute gone in the round. Let's hope that Benson has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight. Mosby throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Mosby working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Benson doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Benson manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Benson with a flurry of punches that miss. Bensonis looking to pass into half guard but Mosby pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Mosby is in guard. Mosby gets to his feet - Benson follows without any prompting. Mosby shoots and misses and Benson counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Benson takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position. Benson prevents Mosby from improving his position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Mosby trying to control but Benson postures up.
Benson stops Mosby from getting back to his feet.
Mosby is defending against the submission attempts here by Benson.
Benson is looking to pass Mosby's guard but actually Mosby recovers to full guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Benson tries to free his leg and advance position but Mosby is retaining full guard. Ted Mosby has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Benson postures up.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Mosby has his takedown stuffed and Benson counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Benson. Mosby trying to control the position.
And that's the end of the fight! Fredward Benson comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well Benson has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
