The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Avo shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Gambatesa is trying to defend but Avo finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Avo is looking for a kimura but Gambatesa is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Avo to get the leverage.
Gambatesa wants to get back to his feet.

Avo with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.

Avo is going olschool here, as he tries to force Gambatesa to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Gambatesa shrugs it off.
