PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Aaron Wright (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jake Blaze (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Blaze is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by The Roof is on Fire. Jake Blaze told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wright drives through and clinches with Blaze against the cage.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.
Blaze throws a punch but it's blocked by Wright.
Blaze has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Wright is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Blaze lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Blaze wants to take a breather but Wright is having none of it.
Blaze prevents Wright from improving his position.
Wright has his hands clasped together around Blaze's back. He's all about the action.
Blaze stops Wright from getting back to his feet.
Blaze stands up and beckons Wright to join him on the feet.
Wright shoots in and bounces Blaze off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Wright working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Blaze's head.

Blaze is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Blaze looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Blaze working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Wright doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Wright manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Wright slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Blaze uses the cage to get back to his feet.

Wright shoots in for a takedown but Blaze shows good takedown defense.
Wright is breathing heavily.
Wright changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Blaze tries to avoid it but Wright manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Blaze to the ground. Blaze escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
An inside leg kick lands from Blaze.
Wright avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Blaze scores with a punch to the head.
Wright displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Blaze.
Wright takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.

Blaze throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Wright blocks it with crossed arms.
Blaze slows down the pace here.

Blaze is looking for a triangle but Wright pushes his legs off easily.
Blaze keeping moving, preventing Wright from controlling successfully.
Blaze has his foot on Wright's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Wright works his way back into a safe position though.
Blaze pushes Wright off and scrambles back to his feet.
A jab from Blaze does it's job there.
Blaze smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Blaze lands a jab to Wright's midsection.
Blaze connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Wright's hands.
Blaze shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Wright sprawls well. Wright wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Blaze gets slowly back to his feet.
Aaron Wright has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jake Blaze.

and Wright moves into the clinch.

Blaze lands a nice elbow.
Blaze ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Blaze no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Blaze looking for a guillotine here but Wright defends easily.
Wright postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Wright has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

That's time! Wright's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.
Wright moves forwards but Blaze connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Blaze lands a lovely overhand right.
Blaze is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.
Donk. Blaze catches Wright right on the button with a cross.
Blaze shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Blaze controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Blaze drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Blaze jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Blaze gets to his feet - Wright follows without any prompting.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Blaze changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.

Wright defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Blaze.
Jake Blaze seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Blaze connects with a looping right hand.
Blaze bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Wright's head.
Blaze fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Wright, pushing him back against the cage.
Blaze is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Blaze jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Wright walks away with a smile on his face. Blaze gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Blaze.
Blaze dives in and grabs Wright's left leg, looking for a takedown. Wright pushes down on Blaze's head and hops out.

Blaze drives through with a takedown into guard.

Wright pushes Blaze off and gets back to his feet.
Blaze fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Blaze fails with an attempt to clinch.
Blaze lands a jab to the head.
Blaze lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Wright at a distance.
A decent looking cross lands there for Blaze.
Blaze thuds his right hand into Wright's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Blaze is looking to slow Wright down with leg kicks.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Wright walks into a stiff left hand from Blaze.
Blaze lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Blaze lands a jab to Wright's midsection.
Blaze shoots in but Wright avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Blaze cracks Wright with a good jab.

Wright keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Blaze has hold of Wright's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Wright manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Wright is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Blaze with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Blaze connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Wright tries to control the position but Blaze now has his back.
Blaze working for a RNC but it's not happening just yet.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Jake Blaze showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!
Blaze throws a nice head kick!
Blaze slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Blaze shoots in but no luck this time.
Wright tries to bum rush Blaze with a series of wild strikes but Blaze uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Blaze has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Wright doesn't defend quickly enough and Blaze has managed to lock this one up! Can Wright escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Blaze on a fantastic submission victory.
