PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Will Whyte (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Spikey Norman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Will Whyte!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Spikey Norman!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Trevor Gratis and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Whyte throws a series of punches but Norman moves out of range.
Horrible takedown by Norman or perhaps it was just good defense by Whyte which made him look bad.
Whyte connects with a single shot there.

Norman shoots in and bounces Whyte off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Whyte keeping moving, preventing Norman from controlling successfully.
Whyte wants to stand and escape but Norman is having none of it.
Norman wants to pass the guard but Whyte is keeping the position.
Norman is looking to work some ground and pound but Whyte has wrist control.
Whyte is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Norman is controlling him.
Norman pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Whyte is keeping the position for now.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Norman won't allow Whyte to get back to his feet.

Norman drops back looking for a leg! Whyte is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Whyte manages to kick Norman off! Norman jumps back into Whyte's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Whyte misses with an uppercut. Norman saw that one coming.

Norman feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Norman drops back looking for a leg! Whyte is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Whyte manages to kick Norman off! Norman jumps back into Whyte's guard.

Whyte wants to stand up but Norman is controlling him.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Whyte trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.
Whyte wants to get back to his feet but Norman passes into half guard.

Norman looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Norman tries to pass the half guard into mount. Whyte knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Norman stalling away here and it's allowed Whyte to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
Norman tries to free his leg and advance position but Whyte is retaining full guard.
Norman sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Whyte's guard.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Norman is looking for a kimura here.
Norman is trying to control. Whyte wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Norman is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Whyte doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Norman.

Whyte is trying to stand up here but Norman is controlling him well.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Norman wants to control but Whyte is keeping him busy.

Norman is trying to control. Whyte wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Whyte throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Whyte throws a right and a left that Norman avoids nicely.
Whyte throws a right and a left that both miss.
Will Whyte seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Whyte swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Whyte gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Spikey Norman dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Norman drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Whyte on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Whyte tries to get out of the position.

Norman won't allow Whyte to get back to his feet.
Norman pushes down on Whyte's leg and manages to get into half guard.

Norman is trying to work for a kimura but Whyte is defending well.
Norman prevents Whyte from standing back up.
Norman is looking to take a break and control but Whyte is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Norman trying to mount his opponent but Whyte defends it.

That's one minute gone in the round.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Norman working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Norman seems like he's working for an arm triangle here. He's freed his trapped foot and he's rotating nicely. Whyte is in big trouble! He's tapping out! This one is aaaaaaaaaaaall over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:40 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Spikey Norman! Spikey Norman retains his lightweight title!
